We’re excited to announce 🥁🥁🥁

Our $1000 WSW Grant Winner Santaj Jacque’ All Things Beauty by Santaj Jacque’ (Salon & Beauty Supply) has chosen Christina Lane Ai Consultant & Nervous System Regulator to be her co-host for our 20th Founder Meet Up on September 23, 2026. It has been a lot of fun working with these two so far. In partnership with Karen Foster Karen Denese we’re turning their pitch into a reality 🙌🏽

A little bit about our co-host…

Christina Lane is the founder of The Healing Corner Initiative, which was and has been a pivotal role in Santaj’s healing journey. Christina architects infrastructure. As co-founder of Champions Institute Champions Institute | Barbering • Beauty • Business and creator of The Healing Corner, she designs regulation-centered systems for the people. For leaders holding space for everyone else, all while keeping it all together: she’s overfunctioning, has high-capacity, and is hyper-capable; operating in a chronically overstimulated season.

Her work spans public sector partnership, community wellness programming, and AI-assisted support systems, all built on one premise, that recovery and rejuvenation is an active biological process, not a luxury earned after burnout. She speaks from lived experience and builds from it in equal measure.

Our next founder entering the exchange with Amanda of is Shardell Dues, Chef and owner of her favorite pizza spot, Red Sauce Pizza because it’s much more than a delicious pizza. They officially opened on October 23, 2015 in Portland’s Concordia neighborhood on 42nd. Shardell later relocated to the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood on NE Fremont Street 🍕

In their anniversary month, we’ll gather for a personal tour and intimate conversation about what it’s been like building her company and team for over a decade. This one is especially for our Food & Beverage women founders. Is that you 🙋🏽‍♀️

Friday Feature: Chin’s Kitchen ✨💞

77 years old. Originally owned by husband and wife Leland and Frances Coe Chin. The couple introduced Chinese takeout to Portland with their first restaurant, The Pagoda. Their eldest daughter Betty (they had two) and son-in-law were heirs to the family business. At 45 years old and with 3 children, Betty Jean Lee took over full ownership after her husband, Fred G. Lee died from a heart attack in 1979.

Nearly 10 years ago Chin’s Kitchen was bought by Chang Feng (Wendy) and Change (Cindy) Li, “two sisters from the city of Harbin in China’s far northeastern rust belt, known for the breads and soups and sweet-and-sour flavors of Dongbei cuisine” published, Matthew Korfhage, Willamette Week, August 15, 2017.

Chin’s Kitchen was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network in the episode “From Authentic to Inventive” (Season 33, Episode 4), which aired on October 30, 2020. The sisters had to temporarily close after the popularity gained from the segment. The beef noddle soup and handmade dumplings made Guy Fieri top Chinese dishes featured on the show and called Wendy’s dumplings his kryptonite 🥟

I first visited in December 2025 with a group of friends. I had to go back and get the vegan & shrimp dumplings I was craving. Maggie was my amazing server again. We remembered each other. She’s been working there for 9 years. She told me the sisters still make all the dumplings at the restaurant. It’s very much a family owned and run business. They close at 3pm for their lunch break and Wendy walked out, but I didn’t want to bother her while resting.

I’ve been thinking a lot about legacy lately. I find this story and passing of the torch inspiring. The Chin’s came to Oregon in 1930. Even with the passing of their daughter Betty in 2023, their legacy lives on and the Li’s kept the name Chin’s Kitchen and the exterior neon sign too 💞
