It's National Small Business Week this week (May 3-9)!

This is an annual event coordinated by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to recognize the contributions of local businesses to our economy (if you're curious—small businesses make up almost half of GDP and employ nearly half of private sector workers).

In honor of this week, support a local business in whatever way is right for you. Shop local. Or write a Google review for your favorite business or share one of their posts on social media. It matters!

Myself, I may take the opportunity to patronize one of our several awesome bakeries or coffee shops in Ellettsville...for the cause, of course. The baked goods are just incidental. 😉

I recently had the privilege of creating a website for Stinesville Community Library. What’s even better than doing the work I do is getting to learn about the organizations I’m working with. This little library is such a wonderful example of a town coming together to create a space for people of all ages to share in the joy of reading and gather as a community. A big congratulations to all who played a role in making this special place happen.

One popular pricing model for obtaining a website is to pay an agency month-to-month for all-inclusive design, hosting, maintenance, etc.

Are you fully informed though on what happens to your site if you decide to discontinue the contract? Quite possibly, your entire website may go away. In many cases, you can't even reuse the design or copy.

For some, they're okay with this monthly contract. Others may prefer more ownership over their web presence. The right choice depends on your preferences, but at the very least, read your contracts thoroughly so you don't end up with some unfortunate suprises down the road.
