As a mom and a professional in sports, this inquiry struck a chord with me. Unlike our male counterparts, the balance between family and progression in career is a struggle I know well.

“In athletics as a female, there is never a convenient time to announce that you will be out of peak condition and that you will need to take maternity leave, etc. To the leadership of an athletic organization, their ultimate goal is to have a team that is ready to compete. That being said, the way they communicated with her stripped away every characteristic that makes Dearica Hamby who she is, instead treating her like a cog in the machine. If she had torn an ACL (knee injury), had an unfortunate car accident, or had an illness that put her out of peak condition for the same amount of time, I would argue that their response would have been different.

One thing that has been driving me bonkers is when someone says that they have cracked the system or code when it comes to marketing.

There is no formula to "win the internet" because formulas lack context. The only way to ensure long-term success is to create a documented strategy tailored to your brand and audience that is authentic.

Did you know that Instagram just added a follow hashtag feature?

Now you can follow specific hashtags that have the photos you want to see and easily find new inspiration.

How does this affect your hashtag strategy?

Well, if you are using hashtags correctly, it will actually increase your visibility and give you the opportunity to be found by users who are seeking what you have!

Also, you can easily keep track and interact with people who use your hashtags or relevant hashtags.

Overall, I think it was a really smart move. Way to go Insta!

If your biggest focus in your content strategy is still keywords, take a look at this article published by Moz. The bottom line is: unless you consider your audience's needs and shape your content around that, the keywords won't really matter very much.

Keywords are important for innumerable SEO tasks, but driving your content marketing strategy isn't one of them. Your strategy should be based on the audience you're trying to reach if you want your organic traffic to convert.
