Briana Fillers Consulting Independent Brand Strategist | Appalachian businesses and organizations partner with me to realign, grow, and strengthen their impact

11/29/2025

Over the past couple weeks, we have shared some of the faces and voices behind the businesses that make Downtown Bristol feel like home. Today, we want to showcase a few more of them together as a reminder that small businesses aren’t just part of our community, they are the community.

Every time you choose a local shop, studio, salon, restaurant, boutique, bar, bakery, or creative space, you’re doing so much more than making a purchase. You’re investing in real people: the neighbors who greet you by name, the families who pour their hearts into their businesses, the teams who show up early, stay late, and help make State Street shine all year long.

Shopping small keeps your dollars local. It keeps storefronts vibrant. It keeps dreams alive. And it’s one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen the place we all love.

As we head into (tomorrow!) and the holiday season, we invite you to show up for the businesses that show up for Downtown Bristol every single day.

⭐️ 7 years ⭐️

I’ve spent my seventh year as a brand strategist navigating what it looks like to become a mother while running a business: trying to find new rhythms, attempting to let go of what was, and learning how to merge the “before” and “after” into something that still feels like me.

Sam was born in May, and we absolutely love this little guy. His first five months have tested my focus, patience, strength, energy, and problem-solving skills in new ways, but he is a gift. He is changing so quickly, and I know I’ll grieve the passing of this season soon enough. Three months of maternity leave and the ability to ease back into work has made me extra grateful for the privilege of flexibility that comes with soloprenuership.

While I don’t really know what this before/after “merge” looks like for me yet, running a business means accepting the challenge of realigning, refining, and rediscovering what still fits as you move into each season. I’ve built a career on helping brands figure out how to evolve without losing what matters, and I guess now’s the time for me to do that for myself.

To celebrate the close of my seventh year, I’ll be sharing seven projects over the next seven weeks that capture the process of growing and changing while staying true to your core.

Finally - and I just know you’ve been waiting for the unveiling of this 😆 - my word of the year this year is “adapt.” While life obviously requires that we constantly adapt, it’s the big transitions (like becoming a parent!) that are really the most difficult for me to shift into.

I know that change has a way of rebuilding you into exactly who you need to become. And right now, I’m figuring out how to run this consultancy while holding this tiny, precious human in my arms as often as I can, and (with a lot of support, including the sweet, sweet elixir that is espresso) I think I might just be able to do it!

The Living Knot Lumber Co (Abingdon, VA) website at livingknotlumber.com just got an overhaul to better guide their “knot heads” toward the perfect products and services for their next woodworking projects. This revamp was extra special for me — Living Knot Lumber Company is my brother’s company! The site also features photo and video from our talented friends at Motion Creative Media to really bring it to life.

This month marks 6️⃣ years of Briana Fillers Consulting! This past year has tested my resilience, but it has also illuminated the moments of growth and connection that make owning a business worthwhile.

My word of the year this year has been “healing.” I initially chose it because I was quite literally healing from a broken foot for the first quarter of the year. (It happened on 12/16, the first day of my scheduled 45-day time off, and I couldn’t walk in a regular shoe or drive a car until 3/24.) It then became apparent that I would do a lot more than physical healing this year, as I experienced the loss of family and community members. Add in the emotional weight of ongoing societal issues (and the fact that I’m an emotional sponge) and it felt pretty heavy at times.

Being intentional about healing in many areas of life this year has reinforced the importance of self-confidence and courage — both in facing fears and in pursuing a life that feels true to me.

I am deeply grateful for the support of those who have been and are currently part of my journey. You have helped to me find courage when I couldn’t find it myself, and you’ve helped me see courage in your own lives. We are all healing in various ways, and I’m so thankful to have you. Here’s to another year of healing: embracing courage in the face of the unknown, finding the bright spots, encouraging growth, and striving for a future filled with purpose!

I had the most amazing grand opening event with the ribbon cutting and an open house thanks to all my friends, family, clients, and partners! The Bristol Chamber of Commerce hosted the ribbon cutting at 4:30pm, and I had the open house from 5-7pm. About 75 people stopped in to celebrate this new phase of Briana Fillers Consulting! Wonderful people sent flowers, brought gifts, and added some new plants to my growing collection!

This studio and workshop space in the Bristol Renaissance Center downtown will allow me to offer group sessions and experiences in addition to the individualized branding and rebranding services that I have offered for the last six years working from home. Please stop by and see me soon, if you weren’t able to make it last night. Thanks to my amazing community for your support and encouragement!
