A lot of people have been asking if that was me flying during the fireworks in Farmington. It was definitely not. Here in Farmington we only have a few people certified to operate drones for commercial purposes and I can’t imagine it was one of them. There are very few situations where you can fly over large crowds of people. You would need a very specific drone or specialized equipment attached to your drone to do that safely. Flying so close to fireworks is not specifically mentioned in FAA regulations but for obvious reasons is not advisable. In addition to all the federal regulations the event specifically hired a photographer and posted signs prohibiting drone use. This was an attempt to avoid dangerous situations like the near mid air collision that occurred the day the wall arrived when a drone came flying out from the field and into town and then back. If that person could actually see their drone they would have realized that two other drones were in between them and the field. Whoever has been flying so recklessly needs to stop before they hurt someone.
