Happy Friday!
Routines are hard for me, not going to lie. It’s something I’m constantly struggling to stay consistent with. I remember when I was a kid, it was not a problem, then the teen years hit and all I wanted to do was sleep 😴 (I also turned into a night owl so that obviously didn’t help) but I still had somewhat of a morning routine at the time like always having my hair straightened. (gone are the days of stick straight emo hair 😆)
Then college hit and although my childhood wasn’t the easiest (and I'm sure so many can relate), life got hard and adulting was kind of a shock to the system. There was a lot going on that I’m sure I’ll slowly share over time if you’re interested but my routine was non-existent. After years of learning how life works, finding God, and trying to get back on track, I’m slowly learning how valuable a simple easy routine can be for the mental psyche.
That’s why I love creating these FlyLady routines and checklists. I know it’s outdated but the lady who created this system has helped me rethink how my environment affects my energy levels and mental health and also how to generally use my time better. 🕑 This system has taught me that it doesn’t take hours to clean your home, that sometimes 15 minutes is better than nothing at all (and trust me, there were days - weeks even where my depression was at the forefront and doing something as simple as washing my face was hard).
I’m not trying to convince anyone to start going down the rabbit hole of the “self-care craze” or “to design the perfect routine” or even to use the FlyLady system but having something as simple as 3 things you do every morning can make a big difference.
Anyways, I hope you are all having a beautiful fall day! 🍁♥️
