Wednesday: Friendship With the World
Reading: 1 John 2:15-17 — John warns believers not to love the world or the things in it, explaining that the desires of the flesh and the pride of life are not from the Father but from the world, which is passing away.
Devotional: James uses striking language when he calls worldly believers adulterous. God is not being harsh without reason. He is a faithful husband who has given everything, and he longs for our complete devotion in return. When we chase worldly pleasures, material gain, and the approval of culture, we are stepping out on our relationship with Christ. The world offers temporary satisfaction wrapped in permanent consequences. God offers lasting peace wrapped in eternal love. The question is not whether the world is appealing. The question is whether Christ is more appealing still.
Personal Reflection: In what area of your life are you most tempted to choose the world over Christ?
Practical Application: Identify one habit, relationship, or pursuit that pulls your attention away from God and take one concrete step today to redirect that energy toward him.

Tuesday: The Power of Honest Prayer
Reading: Philippians 4:6-7 — Paul urges believers not to be anxious about anything but to bring every concern before God through prayer and thanksgiving, with the promise of a peace that surpasses understanding.
Devotional: James reminds us that we often go without because we simply do not ask God. But asking is only part of the equation. We must also ask honestly, humbly, and with motives aligned to God's will rather than our own comfort. Prayer is not a vending machine for personal desires. It is a conversation with the Creator of the universe, who already knows what you need before you speak a word. Come to him openly. Come to him honestly. He is not moved by eloquent words. He is moved by a surrendered heart.
Personal Reflection: Are your prayers more focused on what you want or on what God desires for your life?
Practical Application: Write out a prayer today that intentionally ends with the words, "Not my will, but yours be done."

Monday: The War Within
Reading: James 4:1-3 — James addresses the source of conflict among believers, tracing quarrels and bitterness back to unchecked inner desires and self-centered living.
Devotional: Every battle we fight with others usually begins as a battle within ourselves. Selfish ambition, envy, and unmet desires quietly take root before they ever surface in our relationships. James does not let us point outward before we look inward. Before blaming others for the conflict in your life, ask God to reveal what desires are warring inside you. Are you pursuing what God wants, or what you want? True peace with others begins the moment we surrender our inner war to Christ.
Personal Reflection: What internal desire is currently driving conflict in one of your relationships?
Practical Application: Spend five minutes in silence today, asking God to reveal one selfish motive you have been unwilling to acknowledge

Friday: Time for Refreshing
Reading: Acts 3:19, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Psalm 51:10-12
Devotional: Peter's words ring across centuries: "Repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." Repentance isn't just feeling sorry; it's turning 180 degrees and walking away from sin. Many believers live perpetually exhausted, wondering why they can't hear God's voice or feel His presence. The answer often lies in unconfessed sin creating separation. God didn't give commandments to make us miserable but to show us how to live blessed, peaceful lives. Today is your opportunity for refreshing. What needs to die at the altar? What wall stands between you and intimate fellowship with God? Surrender isn't a one-time event but a daily practice. Choose today to trust God's leadership, remove the idols, and experience the transformation that comes from living His way. Nothing changes until you decide to change.

Thursday: The Earthen Altar
Reading: 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 10:19-22, Romans 12:1
Devotional: God commanded Israel to build simple earthen altars, nothing elaborate or decorated. Centuries later, Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice on an earthen altar—two rough-hewn pieces of wood. No gold, no grandeur, just blood and grace. The veil tore, eliminating the need for human mediators. Now Christ alone stands between us and the Father. But here's the beautiful mystery: while Christ's sacrifice ended the need for animal offerings, we still need an altar. Not for atonement, but for surrender. What sins separate you from God today? What idols demand the attention that belongs to Him? Today's altar is a place of killing—killing pride, lust, anger, unforgiveness. Bring your sins to God's altar and leave them there. Don't carry them home. The resurrection power that raised Christ can resurrect new life in you.

Wednesday: Fear and Love in Balance
Reading: 1 John 4:18-19, Exodus 20:18-21, Psalm 111:10
Devotional: The Israelites trembled before God's presence on Mount Sinai, overwhelmed by thunder, lightning, and His audible voice. They wanted distance, a mediator to stand between them and holiness. Yet God desires something paradoxical: fear Him, but don't be afraid. Reverent fear—recognizing His power and holiness—should keep us from sin. But perfect love drives out paralyzing fear. We're called to approach God's throne boldly through Christ, our mediator. Unlike Israel's priests with ropes tied to their ankles, we can enter God's presence confidently because Jesus tore the veil. Today, examine your relationship with God. Do you approach Him casually, forgetting His holiness? Or do you cower in fear, forgetting His love? Seek the balance: reverent awe coupled with intimate trust.

Ways To Tell If Pride Is Creeping Into Your Life

Pride is the first sin recorded in the Bible and from it all other sins originated.
Genesis 4:6-7 [NIV]

One of the reasons that we see pride mentioned so often in scripture is because God hates pride. He knows pride will destroy us.
Psalm 31:23 [NIV]

The Bible says that pride comes before the fall it also says that God opposes the proud but gives grace to those who are humble.
Proverbs 16:18 [NIV] & James 4:6 [NIV]

Struggle to receive constructive criticism

Let's say somebody brings something to your attention about you that is uncomfortable. If you cannot receive the things that they are saying without getting easily offended without cutting them off and without turning the conversation back towards them that could be a sign that pride is creeping up in your life

Not admitting when you are wrong

A sign is not being able to admit when you are wrong so if you offend somebody and you struggle to ask for forgiveness or not simply just say you know what, I'm sorry I offended you that could be a sign that pride is creeping up in your life. whenever you see yourself as being above

Not doing certain tasks

Whenever you see yourself as being above doing certain tasks, so let's say somebody at church or somebody at work asked you to do something like mop the floor or clean the toilet or move chairs and in your mind your first reaction and say you know what I don't do that because of my position my title my educational background or whatever you have that could be a sign that pride is creeping up to your life because we always have to remember that Jesus Christ came from heaven down to earth to serve and to save us as sinners and if Jesus can do that then there should be nothing that we shouldn't be able to do.

Assuming you know something when someone is trying to teach you something new

The reason why this is pride is because putting yourself in the position of a learner requires humility and if you struggled do that essentially what that means is that you think you know everything and you don't need anyone to teach you anything which is a sign of pride.

Being the one that teaches Something

So on the flip side if you are that guy who always wants to just spout out everything that you know and you want people to look up to you because you have a specialized knowledge in a particular area maybe because your education or your experience or what have you that could be a sign that you have pride in your life because you want people to look up to you and the Bible says that knowledge puffs up.
1Corinthians 8:1

You are better than others

Whenever you think that you are better than people who are less fortunate than you and when we secretly and privately look down upon people who may not be as educated as us may not dress the same way that we do may not be as polished as we do may not have the affluence that we do that could be a sign that we think that we got where we are without God which is a sign of pride.

Flaunting things in front of people

Whenever we're consistently flaunting things in front of other people so if you are consistently wanting people to check out your body your physique your educational pursuits your accomplishments or what have you in hopes of receiving some sort of positive affirmation from other people that is a sign that you are consumed with yourself and not focused on other people which once again is a sign of pride

Being critical of others

Whenever you're consistently critical of other people and the reason why this is pride is because whenever we're critical of other people essentially it means that we have blind spots in our lives because we're not able to see that in some way shape or form we are probably just as guilty as they are in doing the very same thing but if you cannot see that that ends up coming out as criticism and judgmentalism number nine justifying your sin to God rather than confessing it so if you find yourself constantly making excuses for your sin rather than simply humbling yourself and going to God and say you know what god I have sinned and fallen short of your glory that is a sign that pride is creeping up in your life.

Unwilling to submit to authority
Let's say God puts a certain authority figure over your life where there may be at home or a church or at work and we say you know what I don't need to be under them I can do my own thing essentially that is a sign of pride because what we're saying is you know what I don't need anyone else to help me get to where I need to be which is a sign of pride.

Justifying your sin to God rather than confessing it

If you find yourself constantly making excuses for your sin rather than simply humbling yourself and going to God and say you know what God I have sinned and fallen short of your glory that is a sign that pride isn't creeping up in your life.

Tuesday: The Danger of Coveting
Reading: Hebrews 13:5, Luke 12:15, 1 Timothy 6:6-10
Devotional: Coveting reveals a heart dissatisfied with God's provision. When we pant after what belongs to others—possessions, relationships, status—we essentially tell God His blessings aren't enough. The tenth commandment addresses not our actions but our heart's deepest desires. It connects directly to the first commandment about idolatry, because whatever we covet becomes our god. Life doesn't consist in abundance of possessions; those bass boats, homes, and achievements won't follow us beyond the grave. Today, practice radical contentment. List three blessings you've overlooked while focusing on what you lack. Remember, coveting isn't just wanting something—it's the process of mentally possessing what isn't yours. Guard your heart by cultivating gratitude for God's perfect provision in your life right now.

Devotional: Words carry eternal weight. The ninth commandment warns against bearing false witness, reminding us that our tongues can either build up or destroy. Unlike physical harm that heals, slander wounds reputations permanently, following victims throughout their lives. Today, consider how your words have impacted others. Have you spread gossip disguised as concern? Have you remained silent when truth needed defending? Christian maturity isn't measured by speaking our minds freely, but by controlling our tongues wisely. Before speaking today, ask: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Remember, Jesus himself suffered from false testimony, yet responded with grace. Let His example guide your speech, transforming your words into instruments of healing rather than harm.
