Some photographs feel like they are waiting patiently for someone to rediscover their story.

This image from my family collection appears to show a group of workers standing beside an enormous log inside what looks like a lumber mill in Michigan. Several women and children are also gathered on the log, which makes me wonder if this was a moment worth commemorating for the families connected to the mill.

Logging and timber businesses were once an important part of my family’s history, especially connected to the Steinbrecher line. Because of that, I cannot help but wonder if one of the men standing here might be part of my family.

For now, their names remain unknown.

But this photograph captures a moment from the era when Michigan’s forests helped build towns, railroads, and cities across the country.

One day, I hope to learn who these people were and the role they played in that story.

My coworkers have officially clocked in. 🐾

Pia has claimed the desk. McKay has taken the executive perch. Apparently, my job today is to work under close feline supervision.

I guess I’d better make them proud. ❤️

Some photographs arrive with names written on the back.
Others simply bring us a moment in time.

This mystery photo from my family collection shows five people enjoying what looks like a summer day at the beach. Judging by the buildings in the distance and the style of clothing, it may have been taken somewhere along the Michigan shoreline, possibly near Lake Michigan.

I don’t yet know who these smiling faces are.

Friends? Family members? Maybe someone connected to the Steinbrecher or Ryan lines of my family.

For now, their names remain unknown, but the joy of that summer day still shines through the photograph.

One day, I hope the story behind this image reveals itself.
