To all up and coming artist, producer, or whatever field God granted you talent in ...
1. Be a trendsetter, not a trend follower. Stop trying to sound like artist getting recognition, it may sound good to you but to others you sound like a copycat.
2. Variety is the spice of life.
If your doing a mixtape, switch the subject matter up: don't make every track about money, s*x, and drugs.
3. Stay in tune with the streets bc if the streets ain't feeling ya nobody will.
4. Work with more than one producer. Especially nowadays because producers are tagging the hell out of beats due to copyright violation and thats because some producers steal beats and claim them as their own. COPYRIGHT COPYRIGHT COPYRIGHT! !!!!
5. Never throw away music.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people don't.
6. Be humble:
Okay you can rap or sing and confidence is necessary, but overconfidence will be your demise. There are hundred of thousands of artist just as talented.
7. Be your own promoter.
Closed mouths don't get fed. On every available medium, self promote your music, and don't be afraid to share other artist music bc they may share yours in return.
8. Networking.
You can be the greatest rapper alive and never get heard because you didn't know the right people. Doing shows at clubs, concerts, and events are important to getting your name out there.
9. Give the public free music.
Dont try to sell your CD for $5 at the gas station. People rarely turn down free s**t. It just might land in the right hands.
10. Never give up.
Just because you been rapping for years and no one knows you keep sharpening your skills and refining your talents.
I could go on and on, but just remember the game has changed a lot so social media will be your main means of promoting your music. Dont think a record label is going to sign you because they only sign those that are already getting mad attention. Independent labels are the way to go these days. Never sell your soul, be yourself, and don't talk about s**t you never did. People can spot a fake from a mile away.
