Today we are highlighting Lyda D Newman - hair stylist, activist and creator of a hairbrush made for us. At that time, hair brushes were made from animal hair fibers and they were too soft to manage the hair of many Black people. Lyda created a brush made with synthetic fibers - giving it more durability, harder bristles and the ability to be take apart for cleaning. She was also the 3rd Black Woman to receive a Patent.
