By now, you have heard about the Port Workers strike that is affecting the East Coast ports as well as the Gulf Coast ports. While an offer was made in the final hours before midnight, this offer was rejected. As of today, there is no freight moving until both parties can agree to a contract.

As you can imagine, this affects our industry greatly as we rely on other countries to product apparel, premium items, electronics and more. Many custom items will still be able to be ordered (smaller items) that can be air freighted back to the US (lanyards, pins, etc.), but the costs will be higher to compensate for the freight. The good news is that most of our PLPS and MVPLPS (preferred suppliers) have received most of their inventories for the 4th quarter. There are some products still on the water, though. Those items include replenishment "stock" items and new products for 2025.
In addition, we do have suppliers who were affected by hurricane Helene (Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee). Some gift suppliers have been rendered incapable of producing anything for the time being (two in western NC). If you can, please consider a donation to a reputable charity - the situation is dire in many communities. Let's all help out our neighbors in this time of need.
Given this information, we encourage you to not wait to place any holiday or 4th quarter orders. We do anticipate some stock outages on basic items in the apparel and premium categories. The longer this strike goes, the more items that will become unavailable (electronics, apparel, drinkware, etc.).
In closing, if your organization has a 4th quarter or early 2025 project that requires sourcing, we encourage you to not wait. If you have questions or need information, we are here to help.
Promotional products suppliers have prepared and say a short-lived stoppage shouldn’t cause significant impacts, but a prolonged strike threatens industry inventory levels and could spur product price hikes.
