As I was painting today melting away, I remembered how I used to draw on the walls when I was little and how I used to paint on my room walls all sorts of illustrations. My parents were a bit annoyed and my sisters probably didn’t appreciate how bad our bathroom looked after I painted it, but here I am painting on bigger walls, doing this as a job. As I paint these Flores de Izote some customers from El Chalate smile and tell me how nice it feels to see their flower, many miles away from home. In a world where everything seems to fall apart, painting things that make people smile when they walk by makes me very grateful for my family for always letting me be, even if they didn’t know the outcome and our house looked crazy at times.
