It’s hard to believe, but the NC Hmong New Year is already coming up next week!!!

If you’re looking for plans over Thanksgiving weekend, the event kicks off Thursday at the HSP grounds in Newton and runs through Sunday. It’s always a good time to catch up with people you haven't seen in a while and support the community.

Here is a quick rundown if you’re planning to head out:

📍 Location: HSP Cultural Park (3500 Rocky Ford Rd, Newton, NC) 🗓 Dates: Nov 27–30 (Thanksgiving Weekend)

What’s happening:

The Main Stage: They’ll have the dance competitions and cultural shows running throughout the day.

Sports: Flag football, soccer, volleyball, and tuj lub (top spinning) tournaments are usually happening on the back fields.

The Market: Lots of vendors for clothes, silver, and herbs if you need to do some shopping.

A few tips for the weekend:

Bring Cash: While some booths take Card/Venmo, the signal out there can be spotty and cash is just faster for the food lines.

Dress for the dirt (and the cold): If you’ve been before, you know the red clay gets everywhere. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty, and definitely bring a heavy jacket—it always feels ten degrees colder at the park than anywhere else.

Traffic: Rocky Ford Rd gets backed up fast, so try to carpool if you can.

Question for everyone: To be honest, most of us are just going for the food. Be real—what is the ONE thing you have to buy before you leave the festival? 🍗🌶️🥤
