To celebrate the first day of autumn, we’re passing on the pumpkin. 🎃 Instead, we’re sharing portraits we took of Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary’s one and only Autumn the corn snake! When we met this gorgeous education ambassador she was preparing the shed her skin, so she had a blue cast on her eyes that you can see in the final photo. Happy fall, y’all! 🐍🍁

Early last month, we took a rare break from our work and went on a week-long trip to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Canada. These photos were shot on film during an especially foggy whale-watching tour. Surrounded in 360 degrees of dense fog for most of the outing, it finally lifted enough for us to see a very curious minke whale who was spyhopping and peeking at us. 🐳

Shooting film has encouraged us to slow down and experience a sense of anticipation that isn’t present with digital. Developed and scanned by procamera Pro Camera Film Lab and shot on Portra 400. 📸

It’s our eighth and final Turtle Tuesday post! 🐢🥹 And we’re not going to ask you to guess the identity of this one since it doesn’t have a name yet! But you can change that. Bid for the right to choose this new education ambassador’s name at Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary’s upcoming silent auction at their Mountain View Magic soirée on October 2. 🔮

As for our photo session with this painted turtle, after checking out the camera from the comfort of their shell they shifted into high gear and it took all of our skills to get even a few photos of them as they zoomed on by. Over a short distance, turtles can be surprisingly fast! No wonder they have those red racing stripes. 🏎️

We hope you’ve enjoyed this weekly series a much as we enjoyed photographing it. Turtle power! ⚡

It’s Davey the red-eared slider! She joined Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary back in 2018 after being abandoned at their doorstep with a serious eye injury. But Davey doesn’t let her permanent wink hinder her sense of fashion. Today she’s wearing a staple of her summer wardrobe on her shell... frog eggs! 📸 We love a lady who knows how to accessorize. 💎

Yesterday, UVA Today published an article about a new giving campaign in partnership with United Way of Greater Cville that featured our talented friend and client Carrington of Chanterelle Cafe. We’ve had the pleasure of photographing her baked goods, and her adorable family, and were excited to see two of our photos used in the article. 🥐📸😍

If you haven’t tried her amazing vegan treats, you can catch Carrington this Saturday at Farmers Market At Ix and September 13th from 11am to 4pm at Cville Veg Fest.

That’s right, it’s Linford, the eastern box turtle! He joined the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary education team after being mowed down (quite literally, hence his wonky shell) and illegally kept as a pet for a number of years. We hope he enjoys his time in the spotlight! 📸

P.S. Did you know that prints of some of these animal ambassador portraits will be part of the silent auction at Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary’s October 2nd soirée and fundraiser? All proceeds go to caring for these patients and more! 🎉❤️
