Even if you label it as AI, it's still misleading, medically unethical, and a violation of truth in advertising standards.

Use your own before and after photos or pictures you can use from your vendors (with proper credit to the vendor company supplying the photos).

I wanted to pull my hair out.

As I sat there in an online event promoted as a marketing master class in aesthetic medicine, with aesthetic leaders and marketing experts, I hoped to learn something new or gain insight into what industry leaders are seeing right now.

Instead, it was generic fluff, outrageous AI claims, and proclamations about the future of search engine optimization (SEO).

"SEO is dead."

Oh really? Where?!

"Here's how you optimize your site for AI"

Dude, that's just repackaged SEO!

"YouTube is important now because of Google's AI"

YouTube was already important for SEO.

What are we doing, guys?!

I'll tell you what THEY are doing; they're convincing you to "replace" SEO with AI optimization (AEO, GEO), charging a premium, and giving you what you should have always been getting.

And it's beyond frustrating to me, as someone who has been doing this for over 15 years, helping practices rank for highly competitive keywords.

So if someone tells you that you need to replace your SEO company with one that is embracing AI, pause and talk to your current company about it.

Just because they're using buzzwords doesn't mean the value is higher.

Cillian Murphy is famously NOT on social media.

Why? He values his privacy.

He doesn't need to be on social media as a person, because the production companies do all the marketing for his television and movie projects.

Marketing is still happening.
Social media is still utilized.
He just isn't the one doing it.
..and it works for him. Instead of people being part of his everyday life, they stay connected to his characters and his work, which is the whole point when you're an actor.

As business owners, aesthetic providers, and practice managers, your job is to run your business and take care of your patients.

Leave the marketing to us...and occasionally send us some requested marketing materials (like Cillian in his press junkets), like video and before and after photos. 😉

Has this happened to you?

Whether it's a spirited debate, a panel, a meeting at work, or just a conversation among friends, there are times when we need to speak up and times when we should just be quiet and let things play out in their own time.

In medicine and aesthetics, however, it's even more important that accurate information is shared and misinformation is corrected.

How do you step into your power as a business owner?

There are so many scenarios in business that drag us into pits. Whether it's constantly putting out fires, chasing the wrong things and pivoting constantly because someone convinced us it's the only way to succeed, or simply because what we are doing is out of alignment with what we actually want to achieve.

I want to talk about the last one, because there are a lot of business and marketing "experts" who will tell you there's only one way to be successful.

Pause!

This year, I want you (and me) to refocus and realign with what business success truly looks like.

Sit down and ask yourself how you would advise someone else in your shoes.

What would you say?

If you're a good friend/mentor, you would probably say something like, "Stop trying to be like them and just do you."

What makes you unique is what makes you valuable.

What inspires you is what helps you grow.

What motivates you is what keeps you going on the hard days.

Just because it doesn't look like THEIR success does not mean you're not successful.

Yes, there are general guidelines in business to achieve success, but your success depends on you achieving your own goals. Not THEIR goals; YOUR goals!

Does that mean you aren't going to have to do hard, overwhelming, or annoying things? No.

Does that mean you have to do things that are completely out of alignment with who you are and your established brand? No. It doesn't.

An example of this in marketing are the viral TikTok dances that people think they must do to be successful on social media. No. You don't have to do this if it's out of alignment with you. Be authentic.

So what do you want?

What does success look like for you?

I'm not saying play small and safe; I'm saying to get honest with yourself. Imagine your ideal business and life and then take the steps to get there.

And find the right consultants, mentors, staff, and contractors who will listen and move accordingly.

I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I'm just reminding you to remove the distractions and get back into alignment.

Are you using text message marketing in your practice? 👇

If so, please pay close attention to what happened in Texas (even if you are not in Texas).

Today, the American Med Spa Association published an article explaining the new text message law in effect in Texas beginning Sept. 1.

Here's what happened:

1. Text messages are now classified under "telephone solicitation."
2. You may now be required to register as a telemarketer if your practice utilizes SMS marketing.
3. Your business will be required to submit quarterly updates on solicitation activities.
4. There are recognized exemptions, such as soliciting current or former customers.

⚠ Consult your legal counsel if you're in Texas, because this is starting September 1, 2025!

Why you should pay attention to this, even if you aren't in Texas ⤵

1. There are text message marketing laws at the federal level, and your practice may not be following the law.
2. Your state may have text messaging laws that you aren't following.
3. If Texas is doing this now, your state may be next. Pay attention.

What you should do regardless of where your practice is located 👇

1. Consult your legal counsel to ensure your practice is following state and federal laws.
2. Get with your marketing team to ensure compliance.
3. Keep up with changes to the laws.
