It’s always a good time for a headshot refresh, but why stick to just one look? I love clients who want to play in different locations, and truly take advantage of booking a session. Plus, your dad’s corporate headshots aren’t necessary in today’s world. Leave the tie at home, bring a few changes of clothing, and your best furry friend, and we can capture who you are right at this very moment. You’ll not just get a refreshed look on LinkedIn but you can also walk away with a real picture into your life and your love.

Found these gems in my archives from 2021, just as the world had reopened I was hired to photograph owners and founders and at Charles’s home in Logan Square. My mission was simple, use home to create a few images of the guys together and separately. There was no scouting ahead of time, I didn’t have an assistant, and my lights were relics from the 80’s and weighed 80 lbs. By the time I got all my equipment up the two flights of stairs combined into one, I needed another shower.

Luckily these two are very photogenic and the shoot was quick and easy, they just needed a few photos for PR purposes. But now when I look at their site and their branding I feel like I could’ve done more if there was a conversation ahead of time regarding look and feel for the product.

That’s the funny thing about being a photographer, your creative control can only go so far if you aren’t given the opportunity to weigh in on the final product.

You guys, this is my friend .na.222 and she’s the badass creative boss babe behind the hugely successful brand and was featured on this week for her fantastic work. Not only does she have a super sweet brick and mortar shop in the ever so hip Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, but her custom printed cards are sold in over 800 stores nationwide! 🤯

Each printing press prints one color only at a time and she has to work through each card by hand, rolling their templates out and then switching to add a second color. The themes of her cards are creative, fun, and edgy with relatable messages like, “Let’s Party Like The World Isn’t On Fire” or “All I want for Christmas is a day without news (just one day).”

Shayna and her staff hand seal and package all their cards for shipping so having a team that can have fun together is key. But who couldn’t have fun surrounded by the shelves of hilarious gifts, cards, self care items and other goodies, mostly from fellow local creatives like herself. She has an entire line of journals as well and was recently hired to create the Chicago journals for ‘s recent tour.

I’m telling you, this girl is on fire and you can see her tv spot from Wednesday (4.8.26) at the link in my comments.

Take a magic carpet ride with me back to the 80’s for a Valentine’s Day Prom at with and enjoy my photo booth best pics of the night. This year we traded in the balloons for cardboard cutouts of and Mr. T.

The outfits were spot on, the poses were terrific, and the energy was flying high through the venue. Too bad our celebrities didn’t hold up too well. But my outfit did! Can you believe I wore that blazer to my son’s Bar Mitzvah?!? 😝

Last Sundays 70 degree sunny day in March had me flashing back to this sunrise session with my neighbor, David, and his sweetie of a pup, Kali. Any Thorndale Ave Beach regular might recognize this dynamic duo and their ritualistic routine of hand-to-paw five followed by an exuberant throw of the frisbee into the water. Kali knows exactly when to head out into Lake Michigan to retrieve her prize possession, even in choppy, ocean like waves, she’s a determined dog. When she wants to level up she will also grab her rubber ball and a golf ball, fitting all of them in her mouth at once with pride. David is a very dedicated dog dad and watching the two of them is pure poetry. Can’t wait for them to be back in action in just a few short months.

Tonight is the Jewish holiday of Purim and I wanted to share my favorites from Purim’s past celebrations. The laughter, the music, the joy, the costumes, and most importantly the Rabbis. At my congregation our head rabbi is basically a rock star and does a mean Taylor Swift. And her counterpart knows how to rock the rainbow while diving in deep as we examine the human condition together. Weekend update is always a hit a full bar can help to ignite the crowd. Looking forward to another fun evening of shenanigans and laughter.

*If you want to know more about Purim go to my post from Friday 2/27.

Monday evening is the Jewish holiday of Purim, kinda like our Halloween. We retell the story of the Jews narrowly escaping destruction at the hands of Haman, saved by their new Jewish Queen Esther in ancient Persia. Everyone dresses up in costumes, it’s customary to give food to friends, give gifts to the poor, and of course we eat a festive meal.

For the kids, congregations often put on a carnival full of games, prizes, and lots of fun activities. At my synagogue, Mishkan, they hired a drag queen last year to be our MC and hang out and play with the kids. At a time when people are attacking bookstores for having drag queens hold story time, I found it so powerful that we brought Miriam to bring joy and light to our holiday.

Last week I got two emails from one of my favorite clients and all around organizations to work with, . The first one was celebrating 7 years with their current president and CEO, Brenda Langstraat Bui sent on 1/29. Four days later there was another email, this one announcing her sudden and tragic passing. I could hardly believe my eyes and texted one of my contacts immediately, this just couldn’t be true.

Brenda left this world and there is a huge hole in the city of Chicago as her friends and family are gathering today to honor this incredible woman. To me she represented strength, leadership, confidence, friendship, and love as I got to photograph her over the years and capture the many facets of her always warm and welcoming personality.

Sending strength, healing, light, and love to her family, her friends, her colleagues and coworkers during this dark time. May her memory be a blessing. 💔

This past Friday, 11_7_25, I went with my congregation Mishkan Chicago to the detention center in Broadview, IL, for a gathering of religious leaders from various denominations to ask for permission to enter the facility. Legally, detainees have the right to request a clergyperson of their faith to enter the facility and advise them. This is just one of the many rights that have been withheld from the people being kept in this detention center. Together leaders from Indigienous Amercans, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and Unitarians, joined together to formally request permission to enter the facility. A representative from the Broadview police department dialed the ICE office and they read their letter over the phone. The ICE agent who answered requested they call back in 45 minutes for an answer. The police officer told me that in all the calls he's made, many for families standing outside holding giant bags of medicine needed for their family members locked inside, they've never asked for a call back, it's always a big fat immediate no. So with hope in their hearts, a small group of representatives waited, only to be told on the second call that their request had been denied.

When we stop treating people as people, we have certainly lost our way. America, you are so lost right now.
