As writers and authors, sometimes our plans don’t unfold the way we imagined. Deadlines change, stories take longer, life interrupts, health issues happen, and seasons change. But that doesn’t always mean the plan was wrong, sometimes the timing simply isn’t right yet.
Looking back now, I can see why waiting eight years for this story mattered.
1. Growth changes the story.
Over the years, I’ve grown not only as a writer, but as a person. Life experiences, heartbreaks, growth in my faith, and lessons learned added depth to the story that simply wasn’t there before.
2. Patience refines the work.
Time allowed me to revisit scenes, strengthen emotions, deepen the characters, and tell Olivia and Jacob’s story in a way that feels more meaningful and honest.
3. God’s timing is always best.
There are moments when we want things to happen immediately, but sometimes God is preparing the story, the readers, our skills as writers, and even parts of our own journey along the way. What feels like a delay may actually be His perfect timing.
Waiting isn’t always easy, but sometimes it creates something far better than what we originally imagined.
