Have you created your caricature with ChatGPT yet? It’s a hot trend right now!

One of the best parts of marketing is remembering that it can actually be fun. This is one of those moments!

Want to join in? Ask ChatGPT to create a caricature of you and your work based on what it knows about you. You can tweak and adjust it as you go until it feels just right, then share it on social media.

Enjoy the creativity and have fun with it! I’d love to see yours. Post them in the comments below!

Saturday's library workshop on The Three Publishing Paths was amazing! Except the heat was out in the room...as the temp outside plummeted. Hence the coats! But it didn't slow down the interactions one bit. So many great questions!

Inspiration for the new year: Before Walt Disney built the empire he has today, he was fired by a newspaper editor because "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas."

“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started by a mouse.” Walt Disney

You can do it! ~Tanya

I published a new piece on Substack today about platform—yes, that word. 😄 If it makes you cringe a little, this one’s for you.

“In the next few minutes, I hope to clear some of the confusion and dread surrounding platform by explaining what it isn’t, what it is, and how every career-oriented author can embrace it.”

You can read it (or listen!) over on Substack. https://open.substack.com/pub/aprilgardner2/p/platform-minus-the-juggling-act?r=63z8m8&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Writing a book can feel overwhelming, until someone walks the journey with you.

If you’ve ever said, “I want to write a book someday,” guess what? Someday is now.

And once that book is written? You deserve a launch that helps readers actually find your story. No guessing. No cookie-cutter strategies.

Just clear, confident marketing that feels like you.

Together, we’ll go from “I have a story” to “I’m a published author,” with a plan to reach the readers who need your book most.

See how easy it is to get started! https://www.writestartfictionstudio.com/marketing-consultation

This week we met the well driller at our home-build site to confirm where the water well should go.

The short answer: “Nope.”

The longer answer involved stopping everything, rethinking the plan, and then realizing we’d need hundreds of feet of trenching… through solid limestone.

Texas Hill Country is nothing if not humbling.

It hit us out of nowhere. Not because we were careless, but because we didn’t yet understand the system. And standing there, listening, I had one of those "oh… this feels familiar" moments.

Because writing a book works the same way.

You can love your story. You can feel called to write it. And still get blindsided by things no one told you at the beginning:

• You can’t revise a book you haven’t finished
• Passion won’t fix weak craft
• Structure problems don’t show up on page one
• Platform matters earlier than you think

When you don’t see the whole picture, the cost shows up in frustration, stalled progress, and second-guessing yourself.

Writing and publishing aren’t a single skill; they’re a system. And systems need foundations.

That’s why I created the Christian Fiction Starter Framework, a free, 7-day guide to help you zoom out, get oriented, and take your next step with clarity (without expensive surprises).

You don’t have to do everything at once.
You just need to know where to start.

If this resonates, you can begin here:

If you’ve been longing for a day set aside just for your writing—to learn, be encouraged, and refueled—I’d love to invite you to join us for this year’s Virtual Fiction Workshop.

We’ll be gathering Saturday, January 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT, for a full day designed to strengthen your craft, deepen your faith, and remind you why you were called to write in the first place.

This workshop brings together six incredible leaders who are not only experienced professionals but also writers who understand the challenges, questions, and joys of the writing journey.

You’ll hear from:
• Hallee Bridgeman, USA Today bestselling novelist, on Writing Realistic Christian Characters
• Shirley Crowder, award-winning Christian author, on Stories Carried on Prayer
• Tanya Eavenson, award-winning author and cofounder of Write Start Fiction Studio, on Creative Marketing Techniques for Fiction Writers
• Kathy Maresca, Christy Award finalist, on Voices in My Head
• Steven Rogers, Acquisitions Editor at Elk Lake Publishing, on 10 Tips for Aspiring Novelists
• Cheryl Wray, publisher and conference coordinator, on Plotting and Planning Your Fiction

The workshop takes place in a private Facebook group, so you can attend live on January 10 or watch the sessions later—whatever fits your schedule best.
The cost is just $30, and if you’re a paid subscriber to The Ready Writer on Substack, you’ll receive 10% off.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, uncertain, or simply in need of encouragement, this day is for you. You don’t have to walk the writing journey alone—we’d love to welcome you in.

After weeks of trial and error, my sourdough loaf earned its spot at the holiday table, right beside my husband's legendary lamb stew. The crust had the most beautiful crackle, and the inside was soft and springy. All that practice and persistence paid off!

Further evidence there's no shortcut to success. It's all hard work and dedication.

That's why I've been working on my 2026 writing and education goals. If we're not growing and striving for progress, we're slowly falling behind.

The Writer's Christmas Market—just $77—is part of my 2026 education plan. It can be yours too!

But the Market closes soon, so if you've been considering it, don't dilly dally too long.

Stroll the market here. (The page can be slow to load, FYI.) https://danieldavidwallace.com/christmas-market-2025/?affiliate=april_at_write_start
(Affiliate)

For $77, you get access to everything in the Market. You don't have to choose—for $77, you get it all—instant access. And for $21 more ($98), you can also give a writer friend full access, too (one registration for each of you).

Visit the market to see all it has to offer! https://danieldavidwallace.com/christmas-market-2025/?affiliate=april_at_write_start
