'Research and the media have focused on sugary beverages as a major driver of obesity and chronic diseases. Yet the framing of the challenge and solutions are often disconnected from the literature about how to create an infrastructure to ensure water security, often discussed as water insecurity. Healthy hydration and water security are both multidimensional topics but are found in parallel literatures. Last year I began working on perspective paper with colleagues to integrate the literature about healthy hydration and water security to explore which US federal government agencies have authority and regulatory oversight for various aspects of healthy hydration and water security. Our early release paper was published in the ASN journal, Advances in Nutrition. The formatted open access version should be available in a few weeks. Eric Otoo-Annan, RD.
