Artists (and Episcopal bishops) speak truth to power during difficult times in history. There are still 2 months left to see The Cleveland Museum of Art's "Picasso and Paper" exhibit to study how Picasso dealt with mayhem during his lifetime.

It was a pleasure editing Bill Boetcher's memoir, "A Trooper's Tale: Walking the Line." In it, he re-tells stories of his abbreviated career as a Michigan State Trooper. His experience is full of trials and tribulations as he worked to protect and serve – despite the corruption of his senior ranks. This eye-opening account will leave you grateful for those who serve with integrity and courage. Available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle: https://a.co/d/iQXT8gs

Melissa Garrett-Hirsch is a busy business owner. After we went to press with the Fall 2024 issue of the SHAD Connection, including this story by Andrea C. Turner about UnBar Cafe, we learned that Melissa will be opening Cafe Idigo in the former Dewey's Coffee location on Shaker Square. She also is First Vice-President of SHAD. We wish her luck with her various ventures.

My friend Jackie Acho was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in February 2020 and until her passing in December 2022 she shared her journey through a series of beautifully written blog posts. She chose to compile her writing into a draft book before her passing, of which I was privileged to be her editor.

The book, "Cancer Culture: Transforming the Landscape By Infusing Empathy," is being released today. More at www.cancerculturebook.com

The printed book is available on Amazon at https://lnkd.in/gHFpPCHB and the eBook is available during launch week for $1.99.

All proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Jackie Acho Fund for Empathetic Cancer Care and will be used to support others who are on a cancer journey.

I'm excited to announce that my friend Jackie Acho's posthumous memoir will be available for purchase June 4. I had the privilege of editing it with her, then with her husband John LeMay after her death from ovarian cancer in 2022. She wrote about her experience with extraordinary insight, grace, and beauty, and her book is the result of those writings. It offers a compass to anyone affected by cancer, to bring some calm to the storm and keep you connected to your true north.

It was fun getting to know John Ewing of the Cleveland Institute of Art's Cinematheque – Cleveland’s alternative film theater. He'll retire this summer after a 38-year career as its co-founder and director. What's his favorite movie of all time? Shane – the 1952 Western.
