"Knowing someone’s profession – seeing their accomplishments, follower count, house, or whatever – that gives us very little detail as to who that person really is. And yet, we fill in the blanks."

We have a habit of mistaking impressive skills for superior people. But being exceptional at something doesn’t make you an exceptional person. Let’s talk about the people we put on pedestals—and why.

"When I went to reschedule with my doctor, I asked her if we would retest at 90 days. This was something I’d read about and was hoping would give me additional motivation. She was hesitant. Often times people don’t see any results until the 9 month mark; autoimmune diseases are slow. I pressed and reassured her that my motivation to put this into remission would not waiver even if the results weren’t what I’d hoped, and we scheduled the blood test."

Three months after being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, I opened my latest lab results expecting to see slow progress. Instead, my TPO antibodies had dropped from 145 to 13—and my doctor confirmed I was in remission. This is what those 90 days looked like.

There is a scene in the movie Runaway Bride where a reporter (Ike) turns to the main character of the movie (Maggie) and yells, “You’re so lost you don’t even know what kind of eggs you like!” And in this incredibly iconic scene, the look of shock and realization on Maggie (Julia Robert’s) face says it all. She’s spent her entire life simply following around all of the men she’s almost married, somehow believing that in order to be loved she must have all of the same interests.

What if losing yourself doesn't happen all at once? Sometimes it happens one tiny preference at a time, until you realize you don't even know how you like your eggs.

"One of my the biggest inspirations behind Creating Me came from an unexpected place: Runaway Bride. Specifically, it was the scene where Ike confronts Maggie with, "You're so lost, you don't even know what kind of eggs you like!" -- She's spent her life following the interests of all of the men she's almost married, instead of building a mind of her own."

It's easy to spend your life chasing someone else's version of success. These 40 journal prompts will help you reconnect with your values, clarify what matters most, and create a life that feels authentic to you.

"We are the first generation in history whose children may be able to remember almost everything, if we preserve things right."

We take thousands of photos of our kids, but so many of the moments that matter most never make it into the camera roll. Here are seven simple ways I'm preserving the voices, stories, and little details I never want to forget.

"I closed my eyes and found myself in my childhood bedroom, my barbie dream house in the corner, my stuffed animals neatly arranged on the bed… my boombox playing the brand new Shania Twain ‘Come On Over’ album in the background..."

I spent years believing I'd lost pieces of my childhood forever. Then one simple visualization exercise changed everything and inspired the Remembering Me Journal. You might be surprised how much of your story is still waiting to be remembered.
