Is it Winter or Summer?
Winter colors are clear and saturated. Summer colors are a little softer and muted. While itβs easy to distinguish the very soft and very muted cool colors of the Summer palette, it can be a little tricker in the deeper and brighter shades.
So how to tell if a color is right for you? Same as always, OPEN up your swatch fan and see how it works with ALL your colors!οΏ½οΏ½Winters, if the item looks a bit dull, faded or flat next your bright swatches, itβs probably muted and not for you.
Summers, if the item makes the your Summer swatches look dull, or itβs a little βtoo much colorβ to mix well with many of the colors in your palette, itβs probably Winter.
πNavy β Winterβs navy ranges from deep and dark to bright but it is always clear. Summers muted navy has a hazy look that goes soft and expensive with their colors.
πGreen β Winter Green is a clear and saturated emerald or pine. Summers need a hazy green β think jade or sea green. οΏ½οΏ½β€οΈRed and Burgundy β Both need cooler reds but Winters be sure to keep it saturated β the more faded versions arenβt as good on you. Summers do especially well in cherry, strawberry and watermelon shades.
πPurple β Winters do best with saturated Royal Purple or Icy lavender, Summers have a wide range of lavenders. Both do well in red-purples (think plum and amethyst) but as in other colors, saturated for Winters and a little softened down for Summer.
Remember to consider the over-all look, especially when dealing with prints. And itβs worth repeating....use your entire fan! Donβt match a single swatch color but use all the colors to decide if something βbelongsβ with your colors.
