AI doesn’t rank your website. It builds a case for—or against—your brand.

For years, digital marketing revolved around a fairly straightforward question:

AI Search changes the question:

“What signals would make an AI system confident enough to mention, trust, cite, or recommend my brand?”

That’s a very different marketing problem.

And it’s why I’ve started using the term Signal Engineering.

→ The consistency of your brand/entity information

→ The quality and depth of your content
→ The relationships AI can establish between your brand and the topics you want to own

Individually, these signals may not seem revolutionary.

Together, they create a digital footprint that machines can understand.

That’s the opportunity I see.

Traditional SEO was largely about optimizing pages to rank.

Signal Engineering is about intentionally building the collection of signals that strengthen how AI systems understand and evaluate your brand.

Because the future of search isn’t just:

“Did I rank?”

It’s:

“When someone asks AI who they should trust, did it recommend me?”

That’s the game I’m focused on now.
