Ever notice how whatever you worry about right before you fall asleep becomes the exact thing you wake up stressing about at 6 AM?
There is a powerful neurological reason for that.
Right before you drift off, your brainwaves slow down into what’s called a “state akin to sleep.” Your conscious, analytical mind shuts down, and your subconscious takes the wheel. It doesn’t know the difference between reality and your thoughts—it just processes whatever data you give it.If you spend your last 10 minutes of the day scrolling the news, tracking to-dos, or looping your anxieties, you are literally giving your brain a script of stress to marinate in for 8 hours.
Here is how to hijack that process to completely change your morning:
Step 1: The Brain Dump. Clear the cache. Write down every single worry, task, reminder, and heavy emotion swirling in your head. Put it on paper so your amygdala (the stress center) knows the information is safely stored and can finally shut down.
Step 2: Intentional Gratitude. Now that the clutter is gone, fill the void with the good s**t. Write down a few things that went well today. By intentionally looking for the good right before sleep, you flood your system with serotonin and you hand your brain a positive script to run while you rest.
Through neuroplasticity, you are quite literally rewiring your brain to notice and repeat positive patterns while you sleep.
Stop holding onto everything. Dump it, flip the page, find the good, and get some deep rest.
