First-time homebuyers, this ones for you! Property taxes are an important thing to consider when you’re looking at homes because they can add a lot of money to your monthly mortgage payment.

The amount you pay in property taxes depends on the property value and where the property is located since each state and city has a different tax rate.

If you have a mortgage, your property taxes are usually wrapped into your monthly payment. If you’ve paid off your mortgage or bought in cash, you are still responsible for paying the tax and the bill will usually get sent by mail.

When you’re looking at homes, pay attention to the mortgage breakdown to see how the property taxes add up.

Did you know that the higher your credit score is, the lower your interest rate will be?

That can mean saving thousands of dollars over the course of your loan—which you definitely want!

A good credit score signals that you’re trustworthy and make your payments on time. Lenders love to see this because it means that you’re less of a risk than someone with a low credit score.

In return for having a high credit score, lenders will give you a lower interest rate since you are more likely to repay the mortgage.

Improving your credit score before buying is so important for this reason—you don’t want to pay any more to the bank than you have to, right?

So pay your bills on time and keep those credit utilization low to boost your credit score!
