Trendjacking.

Trendjacking is when you take a current affairs topic 📰 and relate it to your business or product. 🏡

Example: Current affairs topic- NAR settlement 💰

What I would send to the media: Five tips this local realtor 🏡 is telling her clients after the NAR settlement.

The idea is to be timely. ⏰Journalists love to localize a national story.

Traps Reporters Use: Part 2

There are five types of questions a reporter asks. And they’re all traps! 🪤

Hi, I’m Carey Marin, a former journalist turned PR pro here to give you all the tips on how to become media savvy 🎥✨, but first like and follow me.

Once you learn how to handle trap questions, they give you the best opportunity to get your message across! 🙌🏼

The next trap is the Iffy question. A reporter 📝wants you to speculate 🔮on something that may or may not happen in the future.

You have no idea what the future holds and that’s exactly how you respond. “I can’t speculate on the future but what I can tell you is…

If you feel strongly about the answer you can also say, “I don’t see that happening,” or “That’s not going to happen.” And then bridge 🌉to the issue in the question.

Here’s an example:
What will happen if your company doesn’t turn a profit?

“I don’t see that happening but what I can tell you is our revenue is strong and here’s what we’re doing to make sure we are profitable this year and beyond.”

Stay tuned for more trap questions and insights on media interviews. And let me know if you’ve ever been trapped by a reporter.

PR Tip of the Day- This is the Biggest Mistake People Make with PR.

If you’ve put in all of the time to prepare ✍🏼a press relase, think 🤔about the messaging, give quotes 💬 and send out the release, don’t blow it by not taking an interview with a reporter. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Reporters still want to hear from you even if you’ve sent out a release. It maximizes 💥 your chances for a bigger story and I’ve even had clients end up with two stories from the same interview. 🙌🏼Don’t miss out on this huge opportunity! 🚀

Promptly return their call. 📞Tomorrow is too late! Most reporters are working on a 5 pm deadline. 🕰️

You now also have a relationship with that reporter and if you’re quotable, they’ll remember that and come back to you for future stories. 💯

Never, never 🙅🏻‍♀️ speak to a reporter off the top of your head! Make sure you have prepped 📝 with your PR pro and know what you’re going to say. You’re not just answering questions, you’re telling your story. 🎥📰

Have you ever been trapped 🪤by a reporter?

There are five types of questions ❓a reporter asks. And they’re all traps.

Hi, I’m Carey Marin, a former journalist turned PR pro, here to give you all the tips on how to become media savvy 🎥✨, but first like and follow me.

Just so you know, we’re not taught trap questions in journalism school. It’s just a reporter’s way of trying to simplify things for the interviewee in hopes of getting their best quotable quote 💬.

Once you learn how to handle these trap questions, it gives you the best opportunity to get your message across! 🌟

The first trap is the A or B question. A reporter is asking you to choose 🤷🏻‍♀️from the two options they’ve given. The key here is you don’t have to pick one of their choices. The answer could be C or both or neither.

Here’s an example.
Which is more important, profits or people?

In this instance, you don’t want to pick one over the other, so your answer would be both.

Stay tuned for more trap questions and insights on media interviews. And let me know if you’ve ever been trapped by a reporter.

PR Insider 💼✨: 4 Things I Wish Clients Knew!

🌟 Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes in the world of Public Relations? 🌐✨ Well, grab your coffee because I’ve got the tea on the FOUR things I wish clients knew! ☕🤯

💡 Lesson 1: You Need a Budget
I’ve started asking this question at the very beginning of any new client relationships. PR should not be part of the marketing budget. It needs a separate budget to include paid, earned, sponsored and organic content.

2. It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint! 🏃‍♂️💨
PR is all about building relationships and fostering trust, and that takes time— at least six months to start seeing real traction. 🕰️🌱 we’re in the long game.

💼 Lesson 2: PR Is Not Just a Press Release
I wish I could tell you how many times clients ask me to send out a one-off press release thinking this is going to elevate their brand. Guess what? doesn’t happen that way. Press releases are one part of an overall communications plan that includes pitching unique stories, thought leadership, and consistent messaging.

🚀 Lesson 3: Trust the Experts! 🤓🙌
You hired us for a reason, right? We’ve got the skills, knowledge, and ninja-level PR moves to make magic happen! Trust the process, and let’s create some buzz together. 🎉📈

Ready to slay the camera game? Today, l’m spilling the THREE little-known secrets to be camera ready like a pro! 🌟🎥

I’m Carey Marin, a former journalist turned PR pro, here to give you all the tips on how to become media savvy. 🎥✨

💄Tip 1: The Power of Matte!
Ever wondered why the pros always look flawless? Matte finishes reduce shine on camera, giving you that perfect, polished look. Opt for matte foundation and say goodbye to unwanted reflections! 🎬✨ My favorite is Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Buildable Full Coverage Foundation - Longwearing & Waterproof - Natural Matte Finish

💡 Tip 2: Light Up Your Eyes! 👁️💡
Want those eyes to pop on camera? Use a touch of shimmer or light eye shadow in the inner corners. It adds a sparkle that draws attention to your gorgeous eyes! ✨👀 I use Ogee Sculpted Face Stick (OBSIDIAN - MATTE DEEP BRONZE)

🎤 Tip 3: Rock the Angle! 📐🌟

Angles are EVERYTHING! Tilt your head slightly, find your good side, and experiment with different angles. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes! 📸💫

There you have it, camera-ready rockstars!

PR Myth #3

Busted

Public Relations is easy enough for my assistant to do. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Wrong.🚫

Why can’t your assistant run your PR campaigns?

PR is complex and multifaceted. 📝📈

PR requires specialized knowledge 🏙️with a deep understanding of media relations, communication and crisis strategies, relationship building and public perception. 📊PR pros are skilled in strategic messaging, writing, managing crises, and navigating various communication channels. 📉

In other words, leave PR to the professionals 👩🏻‍💼because they know what they’re doing.
