The DSVC hosts a meeting every month from September to May featuring a nationally recognized speaker from the visual design world. Meetings are held at the Angelika Film Center in Mockingbird Station on the first Wednesday of the month. There is a reception in the upstairs lobby beginning at 6pm, followed by our presentation at 7pm. In addition to our monthly meetings, we host numerous other desig

n oriented events including our Working Lunch series, The Dallas Show, charity events such as the DSVC DREAM Drive Golf Tournament as well as various other social engagements.

The DSVC is honored to host Katie Johnson () for the May Speaker Series. Join us Wednesday, May 13 from 6-9 PM at Arts Mission Oak Cliff () for a special speaker talk and book signing. Register at link in bio.

Katie is a lettering artist, author, and one half of the creative duo behind Goodtype () —a vibrant community of over one million designers who love typography. Through Goodtype, Katie and her partner Ilana provide education, resources, and inspiration to help other artists thrive doing what they love. They also create collaborative artwork through Goodtype Studio, with past clients including Target, Trader Joe’s, Amazon Music, Adobe, Penguin Random House, and more.

Goodtype’s new book, Follow Your Art, is an immersive workbook for creatives, designed to help artists discover their creative voice. The book is packed with prompts, lessons, and real talk to help you reconnect with your why, identity your “special sauce,” and start standing out by making work that actually feels like you. Katie will have a limited quantity of books on sale at the event and sign copies after her speaker talk.

Kelli Anderson uses design magic to connect people with the depth and possibility of their world. She created This Book is a Camera (MoMA)—which transforms into a working camera—and This Book is a Planetarium (Chronicle)—which houses paper devices (including a planetarium) and has sold more than 100,000 copies. Alphabet in Motion, an interactive book about typography and technology was published to wide acclaim in the Fall of 2025. Clients include NPR, the New Yorker, the Guggenheim, MoMA, Apple, and the New York Times. She has been nominated for the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Award twice and teaches at NYU and Cooper Union.
