Rosewood was not destroyed because Black residents did something wrong.

A white woman made an accusation, a mob grew to more than a thousand people, Black homes were burned, and survivors were hunted through the swamps. Families lost relatives, property, security, and an entire community.

Then America tried to bury the story with the ashes.

If a whole community was stolen, what would real justice look like today?

BLACK AMERICANS DIDN’T BECOME CULTURALLY POWERFUL BECAUSE SOMEBODY GAVE US A PLATFORM.

Gospel grew from survival. Jazz turned pain into freedom. Motown changed popular music. Hip-hop created something worldwide after arts programs and neighborhood resources disappeared.

America repeatedly withheld resources, and Black people repeatedly created culture anyway. Then everybody else monetized what came out of that struggle.

Who receives more from Black culture—the people who created it or the industries selling it?

Wilson Chinn was photographed in 1863 with a spiked collar around his neck, chains restricting his movement, and his enslaver’s initials permanently branded into his forehead.

That photograph destroys every attempt to sanitize American slavery as employment, migration, or some harmless arrangement between two groups of people.

The physical evidence is still here.

Why are people working so hard to soften what slavery actually was?

WHEN BLACK PEOPLE SUCCEED, THEY SAY THE SYSTEM MADE US.

When our communities struggle, suddenly the system had nothing to do with it and every problem becomes our personal responsibility.

You cannot credit “white infrastructure” for every Black accomplishment while pretending discriminatory policy, disinvestment and economic sabotage had no effect on Black setbacks.

Either systems influence outcomes or they don’t. You cannot change the rule depending on whether Black people are winning.
