A Seattle-area high school senior has been named a national finalist in Doodle for Google, earning a spot for her artwork to be featured on the Google homepage on April 28.

Kameirah Johnson, a senior at Lakeside School, is one of five finalists selected from tens of thousands of K-12 student submissions nationwide. The annual contest asked students to create original artwork inspired by the theme “My superpower is…”

Congrats, Kameirah! 👏🏾

Black inventors have been out here changing the world in ways that don’t always get the spotlight they deserve — and today, we’re honoring two trailblazers who were truly giving innovation meets impact. 🌍✨

Dr. Patricia Bath was making history and restoring it too. She invented the Laserphaco Probe, a groundbreaking device that revolutionized cataract surgery and helped restore sight to thousands of people across the globe. Talk about vision — literally and figuratively. 👁️✨

Elijah McCoy was all about efficiency and excellence. He developed automatic lubrication systems for steam engines, reducing breakdowns and keeping things running smoothly. His work was so top-tier it inspired the phrase: “the real McCoy.” 🛢️🚂

Today, we celebrate these innovators whose brilliance continues to benefit all cultures and communities. Their legacy reminds us that Black history is world history — and the impact is forever.

Lanny Smoot is quietly one of the greatest inventors in Disney history—holding more patents than anyone at Disney today 🤯🔧. He’s only the second Disney employee ever inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame 🧠💡… the first was Walt Disney himself.

From behind-the-scenes brilliance to world-changing innovation, this is what Black excellence in STEM looks like. 👑✊🏾🚀

Black inventors have truly shaped the world we live in today — and honestly, the impact is unmatched. 🌍✨

These two pioneers were giving heavy “safety first” energy, and their work has protected and connected people across every culture with pride, purpose, and perseverance.

Marie Van Brittan Brown was in full protective mama mode, looking for ways to keep her family safe. That vision led her to create the very first home security system — complete with cameras, monitors, and remote locks. Basically, she walked so smart homes could run. 🏠🔐

Granville T. Woods, known as “The Black Edison,” was out here revolutionizing transportation. He invented electrical railway communication systems that made trains safer and more efficient. ⚡🚆 With over 50 patents, his contributions include safety circuit systems, the automatic brake, and so much more.

Today, we proudly pay homage to these innovators and their families. Their brilliance didn’t just change history — it continues to shape our everyday lives. We honor your legacy, your grit, and your genius. ✊🏾💛

✨ Black History Month | Honoring Legacy, Building Access ✨

Black history is more than a moment in time—it’s a living legacy of creativity, resilience, and community power. At We Inspire National Empowerment, we honor that legacy by continuing the work: creating access, building platforms, and strengthening connections for artists and entrepreneurs of all backgrounds.

Our mission is rooted in unity, community engagement, and opening safe pathways to generational wealth—especially where opportunity has historically been limited. This month, we celebrate the past while actively investing in the future we’re building together.
