📚✨ Back-to-school season is officially underway in Lake Highlands—but it’s never too late to help set your child up for a successful school year!
While backpacks, schedules, and homework are part of the routine, emotional readiness is just as important. Lake Highlands resident contributor Kelly Feddern, LCSW, of Highlands Counseling shares a few simple ways parents can continue supporting their children as they settle into the new school year:
💙 Keep bedtime, wake-up, and meal routines consistent
💬 Check in about feelings—both the excitement and the worries
🧘 Practice coping skills like deep breathing, movement, and positive self-talk
🎒 Encourage independence with backpacks, clothes, and morning routines
🤗 Make time for one-on-one connection each day
👀 Pay attention to changes in sleep, mood, or behavior that may signal school-related anxiety
The first day may have come and gone, but building resilience, confidence, and healthy coping skills can happen all year long. Small habits now can make a big difference as kids navigate new routines, friendships, expectations, and challenges. ❤️
