💰 Financial Fitness: Why Think Global? 🌎

When it comes to investing, it can be easy to focus primarily on U.S. markets, but looking beyond our borders may offer valuable opportunities for diversification.

In this month’s Greet Lake Highlands, resident contributor Aubrey L. Nestman, CRPC® shares three reasons investors may want to consider adding international stocks to their portfolios:

🌎 Reduce concentration risk by spreading investments across different countries, industries, and economies.
📈 Capture global growth opportunities in markets that may be growing at a different pace than the U.S.
⚖️ Improve risk-adjusted returns over time by adding exposure to markets that don’t always move in sync with U.S. stocks.

Of course, international investing comes with its own risks, including geopolitical and currency fluctuations, so finding the right mix for your individual goals is key.

Thank you to Aubrey L. Nestman, CRPC® & Resident Contributor, for sharing these financial insights with our Lake Highlands community!

📚✨ Back-to-school season is officially underway in Lake Highlands—but it’s never too late to help set your child up for a successful school year!

While backpacks, schedules, and homework are part of the routine, emotional readiness is just as important. Lake Highlands resident contributor Kelly Feddern, LCSW, of Highlands Counseling shares a few simple ways parents can continue supporting their children as they settle into the new school year:

💙 Keep bedtime, wake-up, and meal routines consistent
💬 Check in about feelings—both the excitement and the worries
🧘 Practice coping skills like deep breathing, movement, and positive self-talk
🎒 Encourage independence with backpacks, clothes, and morning routines
🤗 Make time for one-on-one connection each day
👀 Pay attention to changes in sleep, mood, or behavior that may signal school-related anxiety

The first day may have come and gone, but building resilience, confidence, and healthy coping skills can happen all year long. Small habits now can make a big difference as kids navigate new routines, friendships, expectations, and challenges. ❤️

🛍️ PARTNER PROFILE: JUNEBUGS CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE 🛍️

From first-day-of-school outfits and birthday gifts to newborn essentials and everything in between, Junebugs Children’s Boutique has become a special place for Lake Highlands families to shop through every stage of childhood. 💚

Owner Abbie Lynch opened Junebugs in July 2025 with a vision of creating more than just a boutique. She wanted to build a welcoming, community-centered space where families could find thoughtfully curated clothing, toys, gifts, registry must-haves, and one-of-a-kind treasures.

With more than a decade of experience in children’s retail, Abbie carefully selects products that encourage creativity, imagination, and development while also making shopping fun and meaningful. And as a Lake Highlands mom herself, her connection to the neighborhood is at the heart of everything she does.

We’re so grateful to have Junebugs Children’s Boutique as a Greet Lake Highlands partner and love highlighting local businesses that make our community such a special place to call home! 💚

Be sure to stop by Junebugs and discover something special for the little ones in your life - and read more about Abbie and the story behind the boutique on pages 12–13 of the August issue of Greet Lake Highlands!

📚 Meet Your Neighbor: A Lifetime of Learning

For Richard and Kay Williams, education has been more than a career—it’s been a way of life throughout their 53 years in Lake Highlands. ❤️

Richard spent 46 years inspiring students as a mathematics professor at SMU, while Kay shared her love of learning as a mathematics teacher at Highland Park High School. Together, they raised two sons in Lake Highlands and watched the community transform from open fields and two-lane roads into the neighborhood we know today.

Through all the changes, one thing has remained constant: the people. The Williamses have built friendships lasting more than 40 years and continue to cherish the community they chose to call home.

📖 Read more about Richard and Kay on pages 8–10 of the August issue of Greet Lake Highlands!

🦷🍎 Back-to-School Lunchbox Tips for Healthy Smiles! 🎒

As kids head back to school, what goes into their lunchbox can make a big difference—not only for their overall health, but for their smiles, too!

Lake Highlands neighbor and pediatric dentist Dr. Courtney Favaloro Tran shares a few simple ways parents can pack tooth-friendly lunches this school year:

🥕 Choose crunchy fruits and veggies like apples, carrots and cucumbers to help clean teeth while kids chew.
🧀 Add smile-friendly favorites like cheese, hummus, turkey or chicken roll-ups, hard-boiled eggs and yogurt with no added sugar.
💧 Make water the go-to drink—it helps rinse away food particles and keeps kids hydrated without added sugar.
🍬 Keep sugary and sticky snacks to a minimum, especially foods kids may graze on throughout the day.
🪥 And don’t forget the basics: brushing twice a day, flossing once a day and keeping up with regular dental visits!

A few thoughtful lunchbox swaps can go a long way toward keeping those Lake Highlands smiles healthy, happy and ready for a great school year! 💚😁

🐾 Pets of Lake Highlands: Meet Paddington Jamon! 🐾

Equal parts charm, ham, and happiness, Paddington Jamon has a personality as memorable as his name! ❤️

Paddington joined the Mumley family as a puppy and quickly became the perfect playmate for his dog sisters, Jovie and Piper. His teddy bear looks inspired the name Paddington, while his larger-than-life personality earned him the middle name Jamon—Spanish for ham!

This lovable pup came “pre-programmed” to fetch, will happily eat just about anything (even lettuce 🥬), and loves trips to White Rock Dog Park to tackle the obstacle course with his sisters. His favorite toy? Lambie—or whatever Piper happens to be playing with. 😂

Paddington is also full of adorable quirks. He patiently waits to be discovered if he accidentally gets shut in the pantry, expects Mom or Dad to give him a “ride” up and down the stairs, and gets a nightly case of the zoomies around 10:30!
