Congratulations to the Class of 2026 at my high school alma mater, Terrell High School!

Tasha Brown-Montgomery and I were honored to once again present the Antwone Simmons Memorial Scholarship, alongside his sisters, Julia and Cynthia, and other members of the Simmons family. This scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Terrell High School who plans to pursue a professional trade degree.

This year, we proudly awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Joselyn White. Congratulations, Joselyn! We are excited to see all that you have accomplished and the impact you will make in your chosen career.

Antwone was the owner of Simmons Corner, a highly successful barbershop with locations in Terrell and Hawkins, Texas. More than a business owner, he was a mentor, encourager, and community builder. As he worked to create a better life for himself and his family, In creating a better lifefor himself and his family, Antwone paid it forward and opened doors, shared opportunities, and inspired countless people to pursue their dreams.

As someone who has spent years building a career in public relations, it is always an honor to share real-world experiences, lessons learned, and insights with students preparing to enter our industry. The future of communications is bright, and I was inspired by the thoughtful questions, engagement, and passion displayed throughout the conversation.

It was September 2018 and I was in-studio at WFAA Good Morning Texas with a client and the one-and-only, Peabo Bryson, was also there promoting his new music! It was a joy to witness him singing up close and personal! He sounded, INCREDIBLE, and he was almost 70 years old at the time!!! We talked and I told him how much my aunt, Andria Jones loved his music, so we took a picture to send to her. Shortly after, in that same year, I met Candace Ledbetter, who has served as Peabo’s publicist for many years, and she and I have been working together every since!!!

As so many of us are saddened by the news of Peabo’s passing, we are blessed with the forever legacy of his music! Even my 19 year old daughter knows his music through his hits with Disney! Very few artists are able to maintain relevance through multiple generations, but did. Prayers to his family, and everyone who loved him. If you know Candace, and many of you who know me also know and love Candace, please send her love and prayers as well. It is very hard to work and manage all the press while also trying to process the loss of your client and friend.
