On occasion, my mind throws me a poetic moment:

I am color!

I am a flash of red
In a flame of yellow.
I am color.

I am the teal shallows and white capped waves
That dance before the deep blue sea.

I am color.
I am the purple and pinks of a sunset
As the sky chases the sun into the night.

I am color.
I am the green of the forest
as it rises to meet the pale blue sky.

I am color.
I am all of these
And so much more because
I am color!

Getting
Old
Getting old in the USA is complicated. Every person has a plethora of choices to make. Whether it’s Medicare; with all it’s part A, B, C and X. It’s also difficult to retire with a hard earned fixed income; never adequate considering all the years you put in working hard for your retirement.

Holidays can be painful at an older age. It reminds us of all those we had in our lives that are no longer with us.

In the United States, the elderly are to be “put away” in nursing homes and assisted living as if we’re all but discarded.

In other countries, the elderly are revered as wise. And the elderly live up to being wise. Not in the US.

We are coming into a new generation that is about entitlement. A generation of “I, me, mine “.
Can we change the course of the young? No. They are who they are. I only hope this holiday season, you will be aware that the elderly need joy. Just like you do.
