Here’s what the data says:
📊 63% of newer small businesses rely mainly on social media to get customers
📊 Only 18% feel very confident their marketing is working
📊 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses
📊 66% keep researching after seeing good reviews, and 54% visit your website
Translation: social gets you noticed, but reviews and your website decide whether you get chosen.
So here’s a 5-minute audit. Save this and run it on your own business today:
☐ 1. Reviews: Do you have 20+?
47% of consumers won’t use a business with fewer than 20. Ask your last three happy customers this week.
☐ 2. Recency: Any review in the last 3 months?
74% care most about recent reviews. Stale reviews look like a closed shop.
☐ 3. The 5-second test: Can a stranger tell what you do and where?
Open your homepage on your phone. If you can’t tell in 5 seconds, neither can they.
☐ 4. One obvious next step: Can they call, book, or request a quote in one tap?
“Learn More” isn’t a next step.
☐ 5. Owned audience: Is there an email signup?
Email was rated the most effective marketing channel by 44% of small businesses. Instagram can change its algorithm overnight, but your email list can’t.
Score yourself: 5/5 means your foundation is solid, so go post those Reels. 3 or fewer means fix these before spending another dollar on ads.
Reviews get you considered. Your website closes the deal. Your social gets you in the room. 🎯
