Body image doesn’t just come from magazines or social media—it often starts much closer to home.

In Catholic Daughters of Catholic Mothers, Dr. Martha Lucas explores how beliefs about appearance, weight, and self-worth are passed down through generations. Sometimes subtly. Sometimes not.

The chapter on body shaming is one a lot of women will recognize immediately—because it’s not just about criticism. It’s about patterns, expectations, and the quiet ways we learn how to see ourselves.

And more importantly, how to start changing that.

If this is something you’ve experienced, or something you want to stop passing on, this book is worth your time.

Perfect Mother's Day gift. 10% off through Mother's Day.

Nobody cares about your book… until you give them a reason to 👀

Let’s start with the uncomfortable truth. Writing a book is an accomplishment—but it’s not a selling point.

Readers aren’t buying your book to celebrate you.
They’re buying it for what it does for them.

Does it solve a problem?
Teach them something useful?
Entertain the hell out of them?
Make them feel seen?

That’s the hook. Not “I wrote a book.”

The second you shift your focus from your achievement to their experience, your marketing stops sounding like a personal announcement… and starts sounding like something people actually want.

Give them a reason to care.
Then watch everything get easier.

When motherhood feels like magic… and maybe a little madness 🍼✨😵‍💫

There’s the version of motherhood we’re all sold. Calm. Organized. Meaningful. Smiling babies. Clean kitchens. A mom who somehow has time to shower, exercise, and cook thoughtful meals like she’s starring in a lifestyle commercial.

And then there’s the real version.

Crying babies. Zero sleep. Reheated coffee for the third time. And that quiet moment where you wonder if there’s a secret manual everyone else got… and you didn’t.

If that hits a little too close to home, Family Magic by Michele Emmy might be the most relatable—and entertaining—Mother’s Day gift you could give.

Because sometimes motherhood isn’t just magical.
It’s chaotic, hilarious, exhausting… and just a little unhinged.

And finally seeing that version on the page? That’s its own kind of magic.

Stop filtering every moment through your character (and let the scene do the work)

One of the fastest ways to weaken a scene—without even realizing it—is filtering everything through your character.

I saw.
She noticed.
He heard.
She felt.
I realized.

Looks harmless, right? Feels natural. Like you’re grounding the reader.

You’re not. You’re putting a layer of glass between the reader and the story.

Instead of experiencing the moment, the reader is being told your character is experiencing it. That tiny shift? It creates distance. And distance kills immersion.

Cut the filter.

Don’t say “I heard footsteps behind me.”
Just give us the footsteps.

Let the reader be there. Let them feel it without the middleman.

Your writing gets sharper. Faster. Way more immersive.

And suddenly? The scene breathes.

Remember Holidays with Your Mother? Holidays have a way of sticking with us. Not the perfect ones—the real ones. The traditions. The rules. The things we were told mattered… and the things that quietly changed over time. In Catholic Daughters of Catholic Mothers, Dr. Martha Lucas reflects on what holidays looked like growing up, especially through the lens of faith, family, and expectation. And if you grew up in a household where religion shaped the calendar, some of this is going to feel very familiar.

Stop repeating the same sentence structure before your writing puts people to sleep 😴

If your writing feels dull, it’s not always your ideas. It’s the rhythm. And repetitive sentence structure? That’s the silent killer.

When every sentence starts the same way, follows the same pattern, or hits the same length, your reader’s brain checks out. Not because you’re boring—but because your writing sounds like a metronome stuck on one beat.

Good writing has movement. It speeds up. Slows down. Surprises. Mix short sentences with longer ones. Change how you start them. Break the pattern before the pattern breaks your reader.

If everything sounds the same… it feels the same. And that’s when people stop reading.

Some gifts last a day. This one lasts all year.

52 Weeks of Victorious Aging by Dr. Martha Lucas offers 52 simple, practical ways to feel healthier, more balanced, and more energized—one week at a time.
No overwhelm. No unrealistic routines. Just small shifts that actually stick.

And yes… I illustrated it. From the hugging heart (because loving yourself matters more than we admit) to the cookies (because joy counts too), every piece was designed to feel warm, real, and approachable.

This Mother’s Day, give something that supports her—not just today, but all year long.

A Mother’s Day Gift That Actually Means Something
Flowers are nice. Candles are fine. Chocolates disappear in about six minutes. But a book? A book sticks around. It gets dog-eared, highlighted, revisited. It becomes part of someone’s life. Mother’s Day is one of those moments where you can give something that isn’t just pretty—it’s personal. Whether your mom wants to feel better, reflect on her life, laugh a little, or escape into something wildly different, there’s a book that fits her perfectly. And the best part? You don’t have to guess her size, her style, or whether she already owns three of them. Let’s talk about a few that make incredible gifts this year.
