On this day in 2016, I sat down at my laptop and turned a dream I'd barely even allowed myself to think about into a reality. At that point I wasn't sure if it would even last nine months, but I knew I needed to give it a shot or I'd would spend the rest of my life wondering if it would've worked. Here I sit, nine years later celebrating HeyGiud's birthday and another year of doing what I love every day. I wouldn't be here without an amazing inner circle made up of family and friends who have supported me every step of the way, even if they really didn't know what it was that I did for a living. I am incredibly grateful for all of my clients, past and present, who have placed their trust in me and allowed me to help them tell their story. Thank you will never feel like enough.

New year.

Same iced coffee and messy-ish desk.

After two weeks off that I filled with family time, overdue house projects, a lot of hot chocolate and coffee, and Hallmark movies I’m back at my desk today. As much as I needed that two weeks (and could’ve used another) I’m happy to be back and really happy I can finally remember what day it is.

HI THERE!

I know, I know. It's been a while since I posted something. I thought it was time I check in, say hi, and give a bit of an update on everything. First things first, all things HeyGiud are great. Fall is filling up quickly with projects for clients - new, old, and new-ish. I figured I'd start a month that's supposed to be focused on gratitude by thanking all of the people who keep my to do list full and keep giving me reasons to be creative. I'm beyond lucky to have an incredible group of people I get to call clients and friends.

I also felt it was time to write an update I've been struggling to find the words for over the last month. If you know me or the history of HeyGiud, you know my name came from my Dad. The very first email he created for himself a half billion years ago was a combination of so many things that made him who he was. His name, obviously, and his love of music. HeyGiud was his own little spin on The Beatles song Hey Jude. In 2016 when I made the decision to jump off a cliff and being working for myself I struggled to come up with a name. Giudicessi is a tricky name to pronounce but one I was too proud of to have it be completely absent from this part of my life. The one I kept coming back on was that moniker of my Dad's. So I asked him one of the hardest questions I could've asked: Can I borrow HeyGiud? Thankfully, he said yes!

That simple 'yes' meant the world to me. I've carried the name with pride since Day 1 and always will. Telling the story of HeyGiud's name is a bit more bittersweet this time. On October 1st the world lost the single greatest man I knew and the one I was lucky enough to call Dad. While the last month of my life has been harder than words can describe, I am reminded each time I sit down at my desk to tackle that ever growing to do list of social posts and projects, that I am lucky enough to carry my name, HeyGiud's name, and a little bit of my Dad with me into the future.

My biggest goal was to always make him proud of saying yes to my question and it always will be.

One of the things I love about my job is the opportunity to partner with other small businesses, not just directly by working with clients on their social media but also with the other businesses they have working relationships with.

In preparation for the opening of Dinner Delights new location in Beaverdale, Andrea worked with Calli Tuggle Photography on photos for one of her new offerings, DIY Pizza Kits. Anyone can take photos to use for their social media or use stock images and create beautiful content and that's okay; we all do it. The right decision for Andrea for this project was to work with a professional photographer. Not only did Calli take amazing photos for us to use in place of boring stock photos, but she also perfectly captured each of the boys' personalities. I can hear Owen's giggles in my head each time I look at them.

Reset. Restart. Refocus.
As many times as you need.

Today is National Start Over Day. With HeyGiud's birthday being yesterday it's the perfect time to talk about starting over, that was the ultimate restart in my life. It's never too late to do it, I promise. Sometimes you are completely starting over and sometimes you just have to refocus and adjust your goals and restart. It feels kind of like the 'reset' button on my old 8-bit Nintendo. Didn't like how the game was going? Just start over.

Today, I'm doing that, but from the refocus, adjust, and restart place, not from ground zero. I've been extremely quiet on social, personally and professionally, lately. I keep writing content calendars for HeyGiud when I write them for my clients. I keep adding the content into my planner. I also keep ignoring them and never checking off the boxes. I got in my head about my content not being 'good enough' and kept ignoring it. So you're a business owner or content creator reading this and feel like you're stuck, you are not alone. My job is managing content for small businesses and I couldn't manage my own. If you're feeling ready to start over, go for it, and you don't have to be like me and wait until an anniversary. You don't have to wait until for a Monday or the first of a month or a new year. You can just decide it's time to start over and just hit the reset button on the video game. 🎮

Eight years ago today the universe shoved me off a cliff and HeyGiud was born. It's been the most amazing, challenging, mindblowing, fun, intense, wild, crazy adventure of my life. The ride has been anything but easy, but the great things in life rarely are. I owe a HUGE thank you to my family, friends, mentors, and all of my clients, past and present. I am unbelievably lucky to have the most incredible people in my life. I am who I am and where I am because of the people who believed in me and supported me.
