Throughout life, you meet all kinds of people. If you’re smart and a little lucky you realize what to leave behind and what to keep. This photo is of a California Golf Legend by the name of Bobby Olds. I've gotten to know him over the past couple of years, and I consider him a good friend. We’re separated by about 40 years in age, but we view the world in a very similar way. The latter part of that makes the years seem inconsequential. His golf accolades are impressive to say the least, but the conversations we have after rounds and just hanging out are valuable. On his 85th birthday last year, he shot 74 which he would say is OK not great but OK. The other day at 86 he turned in a 72 one-over-par round at his home golf course out at Lone Tree just one town over. He was happy with that. The reason that’s relevant is that he knows his ability and is honest with himself about when he’s performed the way he knows he can. 74 is only 2 shots from 72. A very small margin, but the point is that if you were one foot short of crossing the finish line you still fell short, but if you quit and don’t try again tomorrow you’ll never cross that finish line. When you see a man or anyone for that matter keep pushing to achieve what they know in their heart to be possible, it makes you want to do the same for yourself. In that way, Bob has pushed so many people to realize their potential whether he realizes it or not. I have been lucky enough to have quite a few friends in this lifetime who have given me that gift through their actions. There are good people around all of us that we can look to who will help us through life by just being a good example. It could be a conversation or a decision you watch them make that can give you the roadmap to create a more meaningful life for yourself. Whatever it is for you, I suggest you surround yourself with those people. Thanks for being you Bobby you’re a once-in-a-lifetime human being. They definitely broke the mold.
