Cable and Satellite TV Customers Face Price Hike in January
All may not be well with customers of cable and satellite TV companies as the companies plan a price hike to their subscribers in 2016. According to bizjournal.com, Dish Network Corp. appears to be joining the parade of cable and satellite companies raising rates for existing subscribers early next year.
Dish will increase the monthly price of various packages by between $2 for its most basic channel offering and $8 for its “everything” package. The new rates would take effect Jan. 14.
Dish Network will not be alone in raising rates.
The cost of programming that cable network companies charge cable and satellite distributors rose steadily in recent years, and the cable and satellite distributors are being squeezed by the loss of some subscribers to streamed video services such as Netflix, Hulu and even Dish Network's own SlingTV.
Satellite service DirecTV, now part of Dallas-based AT&T is hiking rates by roughly the same amounts.
Comcast a Philadelphia based company and Time Warner the two major cable companies are said to be hiking prices, too for existing subscribers whose packages include certain kinds of channels. Monroe, Louisiana-based telecom offers the Prism TV service in parts of the Denver-metro area and several other U.S. markets. It’s not clear whether rates will be going up for Prism TV, which offers almost the same channel found on cable TV but is delivered over fiber-optic cable to a subscriber’s house.
The solution for the price hike is Turvi TV. Turvi TV offers all the channels that the satellite and cable companies offer at a much reduced rate which is equal to nothing. This is awesome. Customers will no longer be renting cable TV boxes every single month. With Turvi TV, there is no box to rent.
