Can't have a Lord of the Rings party without Shire-cuterie boards!

Michael from is now our go-to for anything cheese-related. ๐Ÿง€ From crackers to mustard, meats to all kinds of unique cheeses, we couldn't think of anywhere better to get an amazing spread for Beanie's first birthday party. We added our own homemade jams and pickles too.

We even got to sample some amazing raw honeycomb to go along with our meats, cheese, and more! What is your favorite charcuterie board inclusion? Let us know in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

Pouring a cold one from our sister state to the north! ๐Ÿฅ‚

We brought this c***r home from our last trip to Cary, NC. James Creek C***r House was at the Cary Farmers Market (their booth had samples!) and we loved how crisp and light this Stargazer C***r was.

Since itโ€™s finally started to cool down, we sat out on the screened in porch and drank this on the rocking chairs! ๐Ÿช‘

One of our fave "clean out the fridge" meals - fried rice! ๐Ÿš

We used shrimp along with eggs, carrots, spring onions, and garlic to add brightness and flavor to the dish with our sauce we made. Got to get that good wok hay going before you add any ingredients to the pan!

We also had some potstickers that we added on the side with some homemade dumpling sauce. What is your favorite Chinese takeout item or item you like to make at home? Let us know when the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

Can't believe our little Beanie is one ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅณ

We celebrated with friends and family this weekend, making her date molasses birthday cake and cupcakes, homemade poptarts with strawberry compote and puff pastry, and two types of cookies from our fave .

We had other themed desserts like "Gollum's fish" for this Lord of the Rings party (aka One Birthday to Rule Them All)! I found these amazing gummy fish from Sweden (literal Swedish fish) that were allergen friendly and came in tons of different flavors that were such a hit. The company is called (we got them on Amazon, not sponsored).

Stay tuned for more on the themed food and decorations we had for the party, and let us know what your favorite first birthday theme is in the comments below! ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

No recipes, no canning this time, just gorgeous garden goodies soaking in water ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฅ’

We make sure before anything gets processed from the garden, it's thoroughly washed with both soap and a fruit and veggie wash to remove any crawly critters that may have hitched a ride into the house. ๐Ÿ˜…

Pictured here are golden cherry tomatoes, blueberries, and cucumbers. We roasted the tomatoes into a sauce, froze and made jam out of the blueberries, and made pickles with the last of the cucumbers.

I just love the colors reflected off the water and the pops of green on the cherry tomatoes! What is your favorite kind of tomato? Let us know in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

Had a great first time at for Restaurant Week with ! ๐Ÿ

For our second Restaurant Week pick, Pastaio was super responsive about accommodating my allergies, so we felt like it was a great choice.

We started with drinks (not included) in their 3 for $45 menu. I chose their summery, sparkly watermelon mocktail, and Jamie had a stout and their chilled Pinot Noir.

They brought us our appetizers, bruschetta for me, and Caesar salad for Jamie.

I chose cacio y pepe which was delish, with the non-dairy cream sauce made! Jamie chose the spiciest option (no surprise), the Amatriciana, with guanciale, roasted pomodoro tomatoes, and red pepper flakes.

Dessert was the best finisher of the meal, with a non-dairy brownie with chocolate ganache for me, and the limoncello cake for Jamie. Check out my story for the after picture of my dessert plate, it was divine. So happy to have enjoyed all three courses!!

They've extended their restaurant week menu until the end of the month (Wednesday-Friday, 5:30 - 9 pm) so you still have time to check it out! Make sure to visit them and the other great restaurant concepts occupying the Hone GVL space.

Nostalgic snacks, but make it allergen friendly ๐Ÿ™Œ

I had a hankering for a rice crispy treat, but I wanted to make sure both Mom and I could eat it. That meant finding a gluten-free certified rice cereal brand, and a marshmallow cream or marshmallows that did not have fake vanilla extract or other allergens present.

Allergen-friendly Rice Crispies recipe:
- ~8 cups (or ~one and a half boxes) of Sprouted Brown Rice Crisps
- ~15 oz (Just shy of two containers) of Marshmallow Creme
- 4 Tbsp of butter (we like Country Crock's vegan butter with avocado oil)
- 1 Tsp of vanilla extract
Optional toppings: Cinnamon, sprinkles, or chocolate chips (we love )

Step 1: Place parchment paper on the bottom of a 13" x 9" pan and spray with avocado oil to avoid sticking.
Step 2: Add the butter to a pot and simmer on medium low heat until the butter is melted, about 1 to 3 minutes. Then add in the marshmallow cream and stir constantly until they are fully combined, about 3 to 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 3: Quickly pour the cereal into the marshmallow mixture and stir until everything is combined, then pour into the prepared 13" x 9" pan.
Step 4: Press down with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula to make sure that the marshmallow cream and rice crispies are compacted into the pan. Add any toppings you'd like at this point (we did cinnamon and semi-sweet chocolate chips). Chill for best results!
Step 5: After chilling for about 30 minutes to an hour, you can take the rice crispies out of the fridge and score them to help take them out of the pan easier. This lasts for about a week in the fridge!

Save this recipe and send it to your friends who need an easy, allergy friendly treat! What is your favorite nostalgic sweet? Let us know in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

It's the most wonderful week of the year (a.k.a. Restaurant Week)! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

For the last 15 years, two times a year in January and August restaurants in the South Carolina restaurant Association participate in this awesome weeklong event with plated courses, curated tasting menus and more! This is one of the best ways to try a new restaurant you haven't been to before or try multiple different things for a great price from some of your favorite restaurants.

I know, our rule is no duplicate Restaurant Week places we've been to before. However, we can't say no to Keipi! It's one of our absolute favorite for both for allergen friendliness, atmosphere, and delicious food! It's a great place to take bigger groups of friends.

Their Restaurant Week menu is $40 for a starter, entrรฉe, dessert, and a drink. I chose their tomato cucumber salad, Khinkali (lamb soup dumplings), and Zgapari (chocolate layered cake) that Jamie had when we got home. I had the mocktail version of their Fizzy Sea drink, which was delicious!

Where are you checking out for restaurant week this month (you have until the 23rd to check out more places!)? Let us know in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

Carrot cake makes the best (birthday) cake ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฐ

Jamie's grandma's birthday was this week, and the one thing I distinctly remember her telling me from the few times I met her was how much she loved carrot cake (that matched what used to be her auburn hair).

I had carrots, dates, and tahini (or sesame seed) paste in the fridge to use up, so I tried something different and made this recipe from Yossy Arefi (from a collab SubStack post with her and Ali Slagle). Check out the full recipe here! https://alislagle.substack.com/p/tahini-carrot-cake

The only change I made to this to make it more allergen friendly was subbing out the sour cream for nondairy/sheep's milk yogurt. I haven't tried making this gluten-free, but next time I will! I can imagine it will be just as moist and delicious with gluten-free flour.

Date nights look a little different these days ๐Ÿ’œ

Sometimes, it means putting Beanie in her high chair and taking her with us while she waves and tries to make friends with everyone in the restaurant. ๐Ÿ˜…

So glad that the staff and other patrons at were so sweet and accommodating with not only my allergies but also our new little restauranteur.

Pictured here are their Pork lo mein, shrimp rolls, and Lieuโ€™s Spicy Chicken, all of which were delicious.
