We had such a fun little field trip to the Hatfield-Dowlin sports complex! It was really cool to see a Heisman award up close and we particularly loved the thoughtfulness in the way the award was displayed; from the intentional exposed presentation to the layout of surrounding sculptures in the shape of the Hawaiian Islands in honor of Mariota’s homeland. Overall, it was super interesting to see and learn about the attention to detail and thought that went into every area of the complex. Extra points for how organized the helmet walk was.

an oregon football fan’s DREAM! a TOUR OF THE FOOTBALL FACILITY!!! i also grew up watching the ducks play so seeing the players uniforms, rings, trophies, etc was felt like nostalgia for me!

so much detail to literally everything. from the wallpaper in the media room because the leather of nike (v***r one) footballs, to carpets being hand crafted from nepal! lounge around for players, coaches, and of course phil knight. such a fun field trip to remember!! .mcqueen

had an incredible time visiting/touring the hatfield-dowlin complex today!! it is such a cool space, and hearing about all the attention to detail was amazing. the sign in the cafeteria that lights up based on what team we're playing, the walls made out of football material, and the athlete lounge space were some highlights! & of course marcus mariota's heisman 🏆

Today students from the NASU and NAIS ARC hosted a Taking Up Space event on the first floor of Kalapuya Ilihi. Individuals spoke out against the recent anti-indigenous vandalism that occurred in weeks prior and educated about the Kalapuyan people and other Oregon tribes. These students and community members hope that with more efforts such as what was hosted today, work can continue to be made toward decolonizing spaces such as the UO, a predominantly white institution. It’s very important to keep in mind that the education of non-native students is not the responsibility of the indigenous population at the UO. It is the responsibility of non-native people to participate in community events such as the one that was held today, to educate ourselves about indigenous history and present work, and to be active supporters in their fight toward decolonization. Check out the last slide for some ways to engage with UO’s native community, and follow .nasu and for more updates.
