We'll keep this one short and sweet: Service was nice; we did not, however, enjoy the $12 drink. It was immediately thrown away. We think she forgot to add the coffee maybe? 🫣 No clue what else it could be. 😬

Review of the Day # 1, Layne's Chicken Fingers - Kingsland Grand Opening Weekend

The Good: Kind employees. VERY hot and fresh food. Clean lobby and bathroom. Excellent chicken seasoning. Nice entree portions (one club meal was enough to keep me full for lunch and dinner).

Notes: Honestly, not many other than our personal preferences noted below. Customers around us would occasionally never receive their food, which was the only negative to note.

Cost: Nice value. About 10% pricier than competitors, but absolutely worth it. $10-15 pp.

The Basic Analysis: Well done, Layne's. Great opening weekend. Amazing flavors on nearly everything we tried.

Grade: A-, only because we noticed that customer orders would occasionally disappear and leave people waiting and wondering.

Personal note: We're huge fans of Coke products, house-made ranch, club sandwiches, and Texas toast. And y'all nailed it. The only flavors we didn't care for today, despite other positive feedback we read, was the Layne's sauce (too vinegary with an odd cinnamon or nutmeg flavor), the battered fries (nobody at the table finished them, surprisingly), and the Oreo milkshake (was less ice cream/shake and more chilled oversweetened milk). Otherwise, we give high praise to our other personal preferences.

Review of the Day #3, Nana Teresa's Bake Shop

The Good: Pretty macarons. Lots of selection. An option for probably just about everyone. Enjoyable coffee drinks. Great A/C. Quiet.

The Notes: The person helping us interrupted our decision-making multiple times with impatience. One of the items we ordered during being rushed was a warmed "Cowboy Cookie" a la mode, because it looked like a chocolatey cookie on the website. We received it lava-hot. We've linked a photo of the cookie from their page - looks like chocolate and butterscotch chips and such, right? Unfortunately, no. It was just oatmeal and raisins; not a single chocolate or butterscotch chip to kick our craving. Just a tiny drizzle of chocolate syrup to distract us from the missing ingredients. And we would've read the fine print, had we been given time.

Cost: Hit or miss. Coffee and drinks are fairly affordable. If you get a "Cake A Way jar" it'll cost you $10, or a premium milkshake, it'll run you $13. And a single cheesecake will set you back $55. As far as regular cakes go, they don't appear to be as expensive as competitors within 50 miles.

The Basic Analysis: Give customers a moment to read. Give them space. Provide detailed ingredients on displays, and even then, try to incorporate an ingredient from what they're ordering into the conversation. I.e., "What a great choice. I also really like raisins". That way, there are no surprises based on items appearing different online or in display cases. Oh, and a "thank you" and a smile go a long way. Customers want to feel appreciated.

Grade: C, because honestly, if you were expecting chocolatey goodness and bit into a bunch of boiling raisins instead, you'd be sad, too.

Review of the Day, #2: Cafe Karibo

The good: The food and value for it is excellent. You can't beat it. The burgers are unmatched (albeit consistently over-lettuced). The various seating options and areas are magical. We tried each one.

The Notes: We never received our appetizer. We never received refills. My "light ice" was completely full of ice, for my $4 Coke. We were charged an additional $3 to use a card to pay; it wasn't explained by the server but we noticed anyway. The inside was muggy and several people in our party complained that it was hot inside the restaurant. There didn't appear to be much in the way of air conditioning, and the two small fans were broken.

Cost: A huge gap of $15-$25 per person, depending on if you order a beverage or not, and if you factor in parking prices and the restaurants credit card fees. IF you get all your food, get refills, and have great service, the value is excellent.

A Basic Analysis: C- today, unfortunately. We would've loved to have tried our appetizers and drinks as we ordered them. Our primary recommendation today is regarding the cooling inside the restaurant and perhaps some additional server training. We also weren't fans of additional fees just for paying the same way up to 83% of the country pays; build it into your menu price or don't charge it. Doing so breaks trust and prevents recurring transactions. In addition, we previously didn't mind the parking fees imposed in the downtown area. But with an additional $3-4 per transaction to use a card at your business, things are really starting to add up, leaving a sour taste in customers mouths.

Review of the Day #1, soft opening at Camden Adventures:

The Good: Yay! An amazing new venture that we want to see succeed beyond measure! Camden Adventures is bringing fun kids activities back to Camden! We see the vision, appreciate the intention, and look forward to the future. We're very excited and proud of this new business showing up for Camden kids! Check-in was fairly quick and easy, and everyone was knowledgeable and kind. We really enjoyed ourselves.

The Notes: Still needs a lot of refining. Construction dust and debris scattered throughout, several concussion-inducing corners, and the floor was very dirty (RIP socks). While the equipment isn't new and shiny, you can expect "perfectly acceptable/functional" secondhand.

Cost: After tax, a military discount ticket was $15 for a 90 minute time slot; a civilian price is around $18 after tax.

The Basic Analysis: We get it; they needed to open ASAP for the Summer rush. That being said, it's going to need some work: Detailed cleaning of the entire place, rounded corners and sanding on stairs and surfaces, stair grips, smooth sealed floors, fixed roof leaks, and a dedicated sanitation and safety employee making rounds cleaning & sanitizing surfaces/emptying trash cans/enforcing rules.We would also recommend a "Socks Only" rule for ALL visitors from the time of check in.

Grade: A sturdy and fair B-, until we come back for the official opening and the finished product. The excellent associates, kind owner, and easy check-in received the highest marks.

Personal note: The party room and golf patio will be a very nice touch. We see the vision and applaud the ingenuity. And the kids give it a "This was a fun review day! I want to come back!"

Review of the day: Got a behind-the-scenes tour at Peach & Pine Salon & Spa's new location, and it's GORGEOUS. It even smelled good; like peaches! I was treated to a Facial by "Kayla" () and frankly, it was one of the BEST facials I've ever had. I would love to try additional services! Absolutely recommend! ✅
