This one feels hard right now.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about whether I’ve been weaving a hero narrative about my life or a victim narrative. I’ve always been an optimistic person, but a lot has been hard during the last several years — both for me personally and from a national perspective.

I want to claim the hero narrative back. ā€œOptimisticā€ feels like the wrong word right now, but the best stories have overwhelming odds and a hero that proves her strength and character because of them.

I want to focus on the little moments of resistance and resilience.

While I’m good at envisioning how the pipeline should work, Stephanie is the one tightening the screws, fixing leaks and defending a working system from me reimagining the whole thing over again (because that’s my toxic trait). šŸ˜…

You need to be posting *something* on social media.

*Something* needs to be emailed to your supporters every month.

And *something* needs to make the website look fresh once in a while.

Most nonprofits default to slapping the quickest, cheapest ā€œsomethingā€ into their marketing — with the thought that someday, when funding is greater and the staff are bored, more thought can be invested into the outward appearance of your nonprofit.

But… if you’re spending resources on ā€œsomething,ā€ wouldn’t it be nice if it were DOING something?

Efficient marketing means that resources invested are yielding something back out.

In order to create that yield, you need a strategy instead of ā€œsomething.ā€

Currently, I’m working with a client that has great search engine rankings for many pages on its website.

However, the mission is lost in the weeds of overgrown content. šŸ„€

It’s hard for visitors to navigate to the right pages. šŸ”
