Today is Women’s Equality Day, and as a woman who owns a business, it’s a very important day to recognize! It wasn’t that long ago that I would not have been able to call myself a business owner because women were considered less than their male counterparts (and we still have some work to do in that department 😉). Join me in celebrating this day, and acknowledging some of my friends and clients who are fellow women business owners!

From the National Women’s History Alliance:
“At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 and passed in 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.” The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York. The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.”

It’s the last weekend to check out the shop in the Third Ward. I had fun creating these branding elements, signage and landing page for this featuring all businesses!

A big shout out to , .good.co and for organizing this and supporting your fellow women owned business peers!

If you’re doing puzzles to stay sane, why not immerse yourself in ones created by artists, photographers, and designers?

Ah, the power of pantone.

“Being a designer requires serious attention to detail — a notion that Pantone caters to and supports. Their enormous color library always has what I need!
The day I bought my own Pantone chip books for my one-woman studio was the day I felt like a legitimate design business. Pantone’s uncoated chips make it easy to see how the colors will actually print on the other materials we’ll use, like coffee cups, paper bags, and stickers.” - Graphic designer

This moodboard is coming to life! Finalizing this brand's guidelines soon. Creating a moodboard is often my favorite part of the design process. It lets me explore styles, color and moods for a client's project. It helps communicate visually what we often have trouble verbalizing. The process is beneficial to both myself and the client. It lets us pinpoint the design aesthetic and is the foundation of a new brand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This 📷 photo cracks me up too much not to share. Working with other creative women feels really good. Meeting them to talk about business while also getting a blow out... feels pretty great too. .kevil ! I feel like I’ve just mastered some multitasking level I didn’t know existed. (not to mention laughing at ourselves as we fail multiple times at getting a picture where both our eyes are actually open is a fun stress releasing bonus.) Work can be really hard at times, stressful, daunting, filled with never ending lists. But it’s also awesome at times, and important to remember you can also have fun with it and take breaks. Thank you for the treat! Meetings will never be the same. .

I really enjoyed this interview and with Mara Lecocq and her perspective as a creative woman in business. Worth the read.

'Better to go work for a great boss at a so-so company than a bad boss at a great company. Also, business is all about relationships. Maintain them. Nurture them. Then use those relationships to get all the advice, support and help you need to become a boss lady yourself - however you want to define that."

How one woman created the Google sheet that launched a viral movement. Thousands of boss ladies later, Mara Lecocq discusses the future of the ad industry, leadership across generations and what it takes to be, well, a boss.

Hello, I’m Liz. I am a designer and marketer.

I am a graphic designer and marketer with a passion for helping businesses and brands gain the recognition they desire through good design and smart marketing tactics.

Following my love of art and design, I studied visual communications at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). During my time in Chicago, I learned the fundamentals of design while simultaneously leveraging practical experience working in various design studios, non-profits and small businesses.

Through 10+ years of corporate marketing experience directing web development, branding, event planning and team collaboration, I’m able to not only think creatively... but strategically. Visually speaking, I’ve lent my design talents to brands including 23andme.com, Prepaired.com, American Express Open Forum, Duck-Brand Duct Tape and more.

My true passion for design and helping people build the business they desire was the driving force behind launching Liz Martin Creative, LLC.
