Over here at ALLAUR, we value friendship. Our company was actually started by Al + Laur. As co-owners and best friends, over the years, we’ve found it’s important to create intentional space for friendship outside of work.
One way we do that is by celebrating our “Friendship Day!” We turned it into a holiday where we take the day off and do something fun to spend time investing in and celebrating our friendship!
Have a work bestie or do you run a business with someone you love? Here are a few things we’ve found to help prioritize and invest in friendship outside of work!
1- Set Boundaries - For example, we don’t text about work and if we slip up, remind each other to use our slack channels to continue the conversation. We save texting for our friendship!
2- Set Hours - Once we determine our last meeting “closed” for the day, if we are still spending time together, we are intentional about noting that we are ending the work day and no longer talking about work! This also usually applies to 830-5pm window.
3- Plan to Spend Time Together for your friendship - we send each other calendar invitations for dinner nights or coffee dates that are just for fun. Usually once or twice a week! This helps us make sure we are balancing our time and investing in our friendship, not just cranking through work
4- Have 1-1s: We check-in every week to see how we’re doing - because work does impact our personal life, too!
5- Clear Communication: Sometimes means having hard and clear conversations to make sure we are honoring each other
