Some seasons are harder than others. I've been dealing with an injury lately and honestly, my motivation has taken a hit right along with it. But people are counting on me, and that matters. So I keep going. Not because it's easy, but because I know what's waiting on the other side of the hard stuff. If you're in a tough season right now, this one's for you too.

You saw where I started. Here's what I left out.

Building a business is exciting and fulfilling and genuinely one of the best things I've ever done. It's also a lot of figuring it out as you go, questioning your decisions, and learning skills nobody put on the job description.

The tools you test. The feast or famine cycle nobody fully prepares you for. The slow realization that marketing yourself is a completely different skill from actually doing the work. The pricing you second-guess approximately 400 times.

None of it was pretty. All of it made me better at this.

If you're somewhere in the middle of your own messy in-between right now, this one's for you. The hard stuff is how you grow.

What's the behind-the-scenes moment nobody warned you about? Tell me in the comments.

Celebrating another trip around the sun by thinking about what I'd tell myself when I first started this business.

Just over a year ago, I got laid off. And I remember sitting with that news thinking... okay. Now what?

I was scared. I didn't have all the answers. I wasn't sure I was "qualified enough" to do this on my own. (Spoiler: that feeling doesn't fully go away, you just learn to work alongside it.)

But I started anyway. And somewhere in the last year, between the late nights and the learning curves and the moments I almost talked myself out of it, I figured out that trusting yourself is a skill. It's not something you either have or you don't. You build it slowly, through the doing.

Today I'm just really grateful. For the layoff that redirected me. For every client who took a chance on a brand new business. For the people who showed up in my corner when I needed it.

And for anyone who's in the middle of a hard thing right now and can't yet see what it's turning into: keep going. The view from the other side is worth it.

What would you tell your past self?

There's a reason I put both words in the name.

Code & Craftworks.

The Code part? That's the technical foundation. Clean builds, fast load times, sites that are secure and protected. It's the part of this work that keeps your business safe and running the way it should. My background in cybersecurity means I think about this stuff even when you don't have to.

But Craftworks? That's the part that makes me light up.

It's the artistry. The color palette that feels exactly right for your brand. The layout that guides your visitor naturally toward what you want them to do. The words that make someone land on your page and think... yes. This is the place.

Because here's the thing - a website that's only technically solid but doesn't feel like you is a missed opportunity. Your ideal customer lands there and moves on. And a beautiful site that isn't built right underneath? That's a risk your business can't afford.

You need both. The code and the craft. The structure and the soul.

That's what I built Code & Craftworks to be. And it's what I believe every small business deserves.

I'll be honest, there are days I wonder if I really know what I'm doing. Days where imposter syndrome is loud and the self-doubt is even louder.
And then I heard this: "while you're questioning yourself, someone else is using you as proof that it's possible."
I had to sit with that for a minute.
And then it hit me, if that's true for me, it's probably true for you too.
So if you're in the middle of doubting yourself today, just know you're not alone in that. And you're probably someone's proof too.

Here's what lights me up about working with small businesses.

When a website I build brings in a customer, that customer isn't some anonymous person three states away. They're probably ten minutes down the road. They'll walk through the door, shake hands, maybe grab a coffee and chat. They might become a regular. That's real.

My dad owned a small business. I grew up watching him treat every client like they mattered - remembering their challenges, following up on promises, building trust one phone call at a time. He taught me that small business isn't just commerce. It's partnerships. It's showing up for people.

So when I help a local dance studio or bakery or boutique show up online, I know I'm not just building a website. I'm helping someone's dream reach their neighbors. I'm helping communities stay connected to the people who make them special.

Big agencies talk about "scalability" and "conversion optimization." And sure, those things matter. But you know what else matters? The business owner who's also coaching little league, sponsoring the school fundraiser, remembering how you like your coffee.

That's the human side of business that can't be automated. That's what makes small businesses different. That's why I chose this path.

What do you love most about your small business? I'd love to hear. πŸ’›

Your website is a love letter to your ideal customer.

Think about it. When someone lands on your site, they're asking: "Is this for me? Do these people get me? Can I trust them?"

Your website is where you get to answer those questions. Not with corporate speak or jargon. Not by trying to sound like everyone else. But by showing up as yourself.

The colors you choose, the words you use, the way you tell your story - it all matters. Because people don't just buy products or services. They buy from people they connect with. People they trust. People who feel like they get it.

So if your website feels generic or rushed or like it doesn't quite sound like you? That's not a technical problem. That's a relationship problem. Your ideal customer is out there looking for you. Make sure when they find you, they feel something.

Make it worth reading. πŸ’Œ
(P.S. Happy Valentine's Day to all the business owners pouring their hearts into their dreams. That's a love story worth celebrating!)

A couple years ago, I helped a friend bring her business online. I was working corporate cybersecurity back then, just trying to be helpful.

Then I got laid off.

And instead of panicking (okay, I panicked a little), I started asking myself what I actually wanted to build. That friend's website hadn't just looked good - it looked like her business. It brought in real customers and let her focus on what she loved doing instead of drowning in tech stress.

That's when it clicked.

So I started Code & Craftworks. Now I help small business owners create websites and strategies that actually feel like them. Making the digital world simple, safe, and a little more human. With occasional cameos from my very unhelpful but very enthusiastic coworkers.

So if you're building your dream... I'd love to help. πŸ‘‹
