đ¨ Calls dropping from your Google Business Profile lately? Youâre not imagining it. It's that Google removed your call button!
Iâve seen this personally on almost all my clientsâ profiles, and Iâve watched it discussed in multiple forums and groups, itâs not a one-off. Itâs not a coincidence. Google is changing the rules, again, and itâs affecting how small businesses show up in search.
Google has been quietly rolling this out over the past few months, and itâs changing how the Local 3-Pack works.
Traditionally, the 3-Pack showed the top three local businesses for a search, often with a phone button or map link so people could call or visit directly.
Now, Google is placing a sponsored ad at the top of the pack, which pushes one of the three organic listings down. In practice, that often turns the 3-Pack into a â2-pack + ad.â
On top of that, Google is removing the click-to-call button from some business profiles in the pack. That means even if youâre ranking organically, fewer people can call you directly, and leads are increasingly going to competitors who are paying for the ad spot.
Essentially, Google is turning the 3-Pack into more of a âpay-to-playâ space, making it harder for businesses to get calls from search results without investing in ads.
