“On Homeaid, the solo troubadour evolution reaches its next form. By bringing in The Fieldnotes (and producer Chad Staehly), Diekhoff hasn’t just added a drum kit; he’s traded in the acoustic sedan for a full-sized Midwestern work truck. The record is thicker, louder, and carries the rugged, “first-take” energy of a band that has spent too many nights together in the back of a van.”

Six years after the critically acclaimed Flyover Country, Cody Diekhoff—better known as Chicago Farmer—has returned with Homeaid. For those keeping score at home, this 2026 release marks a significant milestone: it is the first studio LP where Diekhoff officially hands the keys to his touring ba...

“When I was singing ‘Peshtigo’ I was letting loose a little bit more—letting that scream out a little bit more. That’s kind of like therapy, really,” Diekhoff said. “I think a folk singer’s job is to sing about everything that’s happening in the world and at home. I’m still that at the core, but now we’ve got a little grit behind it." — Cody Diekhoff/Chicago Farmer

The Bloomington-based singer-songwriter has produced his first record with a label—and the first with his touring band, the Fieldnotes. They'll play the Castle Theatre on March 28.

AmericanaUK gives Chicago Farmer’s ‘Homeaid’ an 8/10!

“The songs here are atmospheric, highly accomplished and with fascinating lyrics, which show how much of a master storyteller Diekhoff is. The music is americana in its widest form; country, indie, singer-songwriter and rock songs intermingle, and his vocals are distinctive and powerful.” — Paul Russell / Americana UK

Musical tribute to his agricultural roots from Midwest storyteller. Cody Diekhoff (aka Chicago Farmer) grew up in an Illinois farming community in the tiny community of Delevan, and his grandparent…

KMUW / NPR caught up with Chicago Farmer to talk about the new album 'Homeaid'. Listen to the interview here.

"Cody Diekhoff is the singer-songwriter at the heart of Chicago Farmer and, as he demonstrates on the latest Chicago Farmer release, Homeaid, Diekhoff has the ability to capture the intricacies of life in towns large and small, the moments that slip through the cracks or creep through the backyard long after the sun’s gone down. His work is a rare and perfect meeting of words, heart, and imagination placed in vessel that would be a formidable force in poetry, journalism, or fiction but is instead—thankfully—dedicated to the art of song. In this conversation, Diekhoff discusses his origins as a songwriter, his relationship with his family and how Homemaid just might be one of the records that will steer us through these troubled times."

Cody Diekhoff performs as Chicago Farmer and the latest Chicago Farmer LP, Homeaid, is a rich and imaginative collection of songs that serve as testament to his formidable musical talents.
