Looking for something fun to do this fall? 🍂

Take a little drive to Todd County, KY, for the annual Hay Bale Trail, happening now through October 31!

Todd County is home to charming downtowns like Elkton and Guthrie, local and Mennonite farms, small shops, cafes, and plenty of hidden gems scattered throughout the area.

The Hay Bale Trail is a fun way to explore, whether you visit a few displays or make a full day of it with stops for shopping, food trucks, and a bite to eat along the way.

This year’s theme celebrates America’s 250th anniversary, and the creativity behind these displays is worth the trip! 🇺🇸

The photos below are just a few examples of what you’ll find along the trail.

Ready to plan your route?

Find the full list of stops and addresses at Todd County Chamber of Commerce, and make a day of exploring everything Todd County has to offer! 🧡

After months of planning, building, permitting, and dreaming, the trailer is ready to hit the road. Now, I'm looking for local businesses, and community spaces that would love to have Ginger Bean pop up at their location.

We LOVE when you send us your favorite LOCAL spots! 🧡

This shoutout comes from Ariel Tanner, who recently stopped by and had the Salt & Light Cafe KY iced latte, made with vanilla, caramel, and salt.

Her verdict?
The perfect amount of sweetness and very delicious! ☕️

But it wasn’t just the coffee that stood out. Ariel said she was immediately greeted by everyone in the shop, from the customers to the employees. And when her daughter mentioned it was her birthday, they even surprised her with a complimentary pastry. 🥹🎂

Her words? “The friendliest people!”

This is exactly why we love hearing from YOU about the local businesses you love.

Keep sending us your LOCAL shoutouts and favorite spots to check out! 🧡

Kacie recently made a visit to Artisan Grove Thrift, in Oak Grove. She missed breakfast and lunch and saw this interesting place next door.

Belly rumbling she decided to give it a shot....

While she was there, MANY people stopped in to grab some grub which usually is a great sign.

Have you ever tried a Jamaican Patty? YUM!

The flavor of everything was what we call AH-Mazing! Two thumbs up and definitely worth a try! If you aren't a fan of hot, be careful because the curry chicken has quite a kick.

Give them a follow at N & M Jamaican Delight for their address, hours, and to learn more! Let them know LOCAL sent ya! 🧡

We want to hear from you. ❤️
Building this little café has been one of the hardest—and most rewarding—things we’ve ever done.
From the beginning, we knew that opening a health-conscious café centered around locally sourced, organic ingredients in a small Southern town was ambitious. We knew we were going against the grain, but we truly believed there was room for something different.

If we’re being completely honest with you, though, financially, the café isn’t thriving.
That’s difficult to admit.
But something is thriving here—something we never could have measured on a spreadsheet.
Over the last six months, we’ve heard your testimonies, prayed with you, received your prayers, shared the Gospel, worshipped together, and built relationships with people who have become so much more than customers.

Seeing familiar faces walk through our doors each week has been nothing short of a blessing from God—and we don’t want to lose that.
So, we’re asking for your help.
What would make you visit more often? What would make you excited to tell your friends and family about Salt & Light?
Would you use a loyalty program?
Would a fully stocked grab-and-go fridge make your life easier?
Would you like more healthy, homemade alternatives to the usual drive-thru?
More breakfast or lunch options?
Family meals?
Different hours?
New products?

Please tell us. We truly want to listen.

We also want to be transparent about where we are right now: we are struggling to make ends meet. There are holes in our week that must be filled if we’re going to keep the doors open, the lights on, and continue supporting our family through this business.

We believe deeply in what we’re building.
We believe there is a place for good food, honest ingredients, local producers, genuine hospitality, and meaningful community—and most importantly, a place where people can encounter Jesus.
But right now, we need your help.
Please leave us a comment. Tell us what you want, what would bring you back more often, and what would make you tell your neighbor, friend, or family:
“You need to go check this place out.”

This all comes from our hearts at Salt & Light Cafe

13 Marion isn’t just a shop, it’s a story of healing, family, and love owned by Wayne Swope and his partner. After losing his sister in 2006, weekends at Lake Barkley became a place of peace for his partner and family. When his mother, an avid quilter, and something she loved to share with her daughter before her passing, saw the old Hot Diggity Dog building for sale in Cadiz she dreamed of turning it into a quilt and gift shop. They bought it in 2013 and opened on July 5th in his sister’s honor of the day she passed.

His mom poured her heart into 13 Marion. She filled it with handmade quilts, gifts from friends, quilt classes, laughter, and her famous “smiling pigs” that she said should bring joy to anyone who took them home. For years she greeted every customer with warmth and stories until her passing in 2017.

Today, they keep 13 Marion going now with Sally running it in her memory. Sweet Sally has become like a second mother to Wayne, and we know you will love meeting her and hearing her stories like we did.

The store still carries beautiful handmade items from her friends, and you will probably leave with something you didn't know you needed.

Cadiz has become his home, and his family still gathers at Lake Barkley carrying forward the joy their mother and sister brought into their lives. Check out their Facebook, 13 On Marion Unique Finds, for more pictures and make this a stop in the quaint Cadiz downtown.
