Not all social media wins show up in your analytics dashboard. šŸ“Š

Strategic nonprofit partnerships are one of the most underrated ways to grow your impact on social media and beyond.

When partnerships are intentional, they help you:
🌱 Reach new audiences who already care
šŸ¤ Build trust through shared credibility
šŸ” Create momentum that extends past likes and comments

Some of the most meaningful social media wins don’t show up as engagement metrics. They show up as partnerships.

If partnerships aren’t part of your social media strategy yet, that might be the missing piece 🧩

Start thinking about who you could build alongside this year and take that first step. šŸ¤

Let’s honor Dr. King's legacy by remembering that even small acts of care, solidarity, and courage matter now more than ever.

Keep moving forward. Keep choosing compassion. Keep showing up for neighbors who may be hurting or afraid.

We need empathy now more than ever.

I’ve tried really hard to make this page positive and not touch on the current political nightmare. But with today’s ICE shooting of a legal observer, it feels like silence in any capacity is complicity.

Just last month I went to an information meeting on becoming one of these observers. The people I met at that meeting are extremely compassionate and empathetic individuals who just want to find a way support the immigrant community.

I never thought I would see our country turn into what it has become. And I guess I’m just posting this to say I know today is hard - the past year has been excruciating- and I’m right there with you.

Generally, when I talk with nonprofit folks about social media, they tell me they just don’t have time to post. And if they do find the time, there’s rarely enough left to build a strategy, stay consistent, and review the results.

But every now and then, I meet a team doing the opposite: posting everywhere and all the time. 🫣

And every time, I hear the same thing: they’re completely burnt out.

So please hear me when I say this:
🚨You do not need to post every day.
🚨You do not need to be on every platform.

Nonprofit work is already intense. Most people are doing the work of three! Don’t make social media harder than it needs to be.

Here are a few simple ways to lighten your load:
šŸ“… Start with a plan that’s easy to stick to.
šŸ“± Focus on 2–3 platforms where your audience actually spends time.
šŸ” Cross post! Create once and adapt it.
šŸ“ø Keep a shared folder for photos and videos from your team.
🧠 Batch create content to save time and stress.

Nonprofit work is hard. Your social media doesn’t have to be.🫶 Work smarter, not harder.

Ethical storytelling is one of the most critical parts of nonprofit marketing.

Every story your organization shares will shape how people see your mission and how the individuals in those stories see themselves.

That’s why ethical storytelling isn’t just a communications practice, it’s your RESPONSIBILITY.

Here are a few guiding principles to keep in mind:
✨ Lead with dignity, not drama.
✨ Get informed consent and explain how the story will be used.
✨ Invite people to help shape how their story is told.
✨ Protect privacy, especially in sensitive situations.
✨ Avoid pity-based appeals; focus on strength and partnership.
✨ Revisit consent over time.

When nonprofits honor people’s voices, we build deeper trust, stronger relationships, and more authentic impact.

The most powerful stories aren’t the ones that make people feel sorry. They’re the ones that make people care. šŸ’›

One of the best parts of working in the nonprofit world? The community šŸ’™

That value of collaboration and generosity shapes the way I manage my client accounts. As part of my engagement strategy, I regularly share other nonprofits’ posts directly from my clients’ pages.

Here’s what that might look like ā¬‡ļø
✨ Sharing a local nonprofit’s event their audience might enjoy
✨ Highlighting advocacy info from an org in the same cause area
✨ Posting community resources or updates that offer value for my clients’ audience

When the content is aligned and relevant, I share it. This simple approach often builds goodwill, strengthens relationships, and has even led to lasting partnerships offline.

I believe nonprofits thrive when we treat the space as collaborative, not competitive. And my clients see the benefits of that firsthand.

šŸ‘‰ How does your nonprofit approach engagement? Do you share and support content from other organizations in your community?

I never thought I’d say this… but here it is šŸ‘€

Nonprofits can be successful on social media without obsessing over analytics.
Of course, data matters. šŸ“Š It helps you refine content and understand how your community responds. But not every nonprofit needs to beat last month’s numbers to be successful.

It all comes back to your goals:
✨ If you want to grow engagement, bring in new supporters, or expand reach → checking the data regularly is a must.
✨ If you want to stay connected with your in-person community or build credibility with people who already know you → social media can serve more as a communication tool than a performance engine.

Sometimes social media has to be strategic and outcome-driven. Sometimes it doesn’t. What matters most is that your approach reflects your organization’s unique goals.

šŸ’” What are your nonprofit’s goals for social media?

Spoiler Alert!

You’re not going to start posting this week and see a packed event next month.
That’s just not how it works.

If your organization wants social media to actually make a difference, it has to commit to the long haul because real results come after months (or years) of showing up consistently… or investing heavily in ads.

Even if you strike gold with an early viral post, there’s still work to do:
āœ… Turning likes into follows
āœ… Ensuring those followers are aligned with your mission
āœ… Earning their trust over time

So if you’re weighing the strategy, time, and ROI of social media, make sure you’re considering the full picture.

Because social media done right is about community building and that doesn’t happen overnight.

ā€œDone is better than perfect.ā€

You’ve probably heard that one before. I say it to nonprofit clients all the time—but truthfully, it’s not always easy to follow.

If you’ve ever spent 30+ minutes rewriting a single Instagram caption… you’re not alone. I’m a recovering perfectionist myself (and some days I’m not recovering all that well šŸ˜…).

But here’s what I’ve learned: Getting your message out there matters more than getting every word exactly right.

When I find myself stuck in perfectionism, I’ve learned to either simplify—or ask for help.

(Shoutout to the amazing folks like Kirst Holland and Larissa Flite who help me work smarter and serve my clients better šŸ™Œ)

✨ If you’re a nonprofit leader writing your own content, please know this: your voice is powerful, even when it’s not ā€œperfect.ā€

What helps you get out of your own way and hit ā€œpostā€?
