We’re painting a mural in Dryden NY, and you can help! Tomorrow—Sunday the 6th is a community paint day. Come between 12-4pm to help. There will be cookies!!
Some fun facts about Dryden! It was one of the first towns in the country to ban fracking!! It was three women who were at the helm of this— a le***an couple named Deborah and Joanne Cipolla-Dennis, and a woman named Marie McRae. They were all approached by big oil execs to lease their land for fracking, and fought back.
They ended up fighting for YEARS, and got the town involved, petitioned, had lawyers step in to help, and were successful after about 7 years of fighting. In 2014 a landmark decision was handed down by the court of appeals, ruling that NY municipalities have the right to keep fracking out of their borders. Many other states hopped on the fracking ban following NY’s success.
And that was all because of our little upstate town called Dryden.
This mural will honor the wildlife in and around Dryden. Stay tuned!
