Teen Dead Following Drowning Incident in Ellisville; Investigation Ongoing

A 16-year-old Ellisville teen has died following a drowning incident Monday afternoon near a pond off Highway 590, according to authorities.

The Ellisville Police Department and the Jones County Coroner’s Office are currently investigating the incident.

Coroner Burl Hall identified the victim as Valiente Alba of Ellisville. Officials confirmed an autopsy will be performed as part of the ongoing investigation.

An attorney stated that one person was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the police station for questioning. Authorities have not publicly identified the individual.

The Jones County School District confirmed Alba was a student at South Jones High School. The school shared a statement on Facebook Monday evening expressing condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates, and teachers.

At this time, investigators have not said whether foul play is suspected or if any weapons were involved. No possible charges have been announced.

A High-Tech Drone Solution to an Age-Old Problem
Mississippi is facing a significant environmental and economic challenge due to the proliferation of wild hogs across the state. Recognizing the severity of the issue, lawmakers are now considering a groundbreaking proposal aimed at curbing the wild hog population through the use of advanced technology. The initiative, embodied in the “Johnny Kakales Act” or Senate Bill 2662, seeks to reportedly legalize the use of drones for hunting these invasive swine on private lands. This measure mirrors efforts in other states, such as Texas, where drones equipped with thermal imaging have already proven effective in managing hog populations.
