This week Microsoft 365 had an incident that affected Exchange Online with some users seeing email delays, authentication issues, and other service problems while Microsoft worked on mitigation to the problem.

That was a good reminder of how much of a normal workday can depend on one platform like Email, Teams, calendars, shared files, logins… a lot is connected without us really thinking about it.

Most outages are temporary but it’s still worth asking: if email or Teams was unavailable for a few hours, would your team know how to keep communicating and what work could still move forward?

Having your plans ahead can make those moments a lot easier.

When an employee leaves, shutting down their email account is not the end of the offboarding process.

Access can still be sitting in places nobody thinks to check: shared drives, business apps, CRM accounts, remote access tools, and company devices.

That is where small gaps can turn into real security problems.

A simple fix is to have one offboarding checklist and one person responsible for making sure every item is actually completed.

No guessing. No “I thought someone handled that.”

Good cybersecurity often comes down to doing the simple things consistently.
